Having purchased the i5 variant recently, I have been trying to compare whether or not the upgrade to an 11th gen i5 with better graphics and a surface pen along with Costco's extra one year warranty is worth the two hundred dollar difference with Walmarts i3 version. Especially since both deals only have 8 gb non upgradeable ram.

As someone with no experience with surface tablets or laptops, my first impression is that it almost feels like a toy or a large android tablet. Ultra light versus most laptops I've used. Almost feels like I could break it by accident at anytime.

I actually purchased this from Costco when it was offered over xmas but returned it because I had also purchased the Walmart i3 deal and couldn't tell any significant difference them. My usage is very light though, browsing (usually 5-10 tabs open), and some OneNote use to annotate documents. If you anticipate using the pen (which is really the biggest reason to get a Surface imo) then the difference between the deals is really only $139 since they run about $60. Then Costco cashback too if you have it. So in the big scheme not really that big of a price difference.

The extra warranty (and generous return policy) from Costco is nice, but my understanding is that they are very well built. I would purchase a sleeve off Amazon for transporting.

Anyway I don't think you can go wrong with either. It's got its quirks but I really enjoy it.

I also got this at Thanksgiving, and this is definitely the best Surface deal from the holiday season. I replaced the SSD with a WD SN530 256GB SSD from eBay for $27 delivered. The performance is almost double of the original 128GB SSD.

I got a new Surface Pro 8 when it came out in October and returned it after a week. MS decided (a really poor decision) to make the SP8 out of aluminum instead of magnesium. Five ounces heavier doesn't sound too bad, but it was a deal killer if you use it as a tablet.

I'm planning on replacing the SSD soon. Did you just do a fresh install?

I wanted to ensure that there was no data on the drive I bought on eBay, so I did a clean install using an image directly from Microsoft.

Ugh! Can't believe I missed this deal. The Surface Pro 7 I bought in 2019 died completely and I finally got my warranty claim approved for the full refund on yesterday. Mad
