wow that's a great price... I'm currently running a i5-8400 @2.8 ghz. Anyone know if this is compatible with my Dell XPS 8930 or how/where I can check if it is compatible?

Its 100% not compatible. Intel usually does 2 generations per motherboard chipset. This processor, however is physically larger than the 8th gen ones, and will not fit in the socket. Even the 11th gen ones, which have a similar socket size, will not work.

Next time look up the CPU socket this is lga1700 and your motherboard. Or look at your current which is lga1151.
