Even though I am not buying these, I am turning "find" on in my phone so it might help one of the fellow users. They should have this on by default like ios imo. Anyways. Just doing my part.

strange you would think one person would have this feature on. i went crazy and got the chipolo when it was on sale at sams club. but the more i look into these it seems like the samsung smarttag and apple airtag are probably the two best on the market as it gets the signals of their own phone (samsung or apple) which millions of people have assuming they turn that feature on. if you go with tile or other you'll have to rely on people having that brand around which not many compare to apple or samsung.

I think people who don't use smarttag won't have this on. Probably can't even turn it on without linking one. Apple has it on by default.

Got 4 of them for less than $13 each last year with education offer at Samsung.com. This is not as good a deal. I am using the smart tags to control home automation devices and replaced the remote control of garage door opener.

They also suck even with Samsung phones. I have 2, both the regular and SmartTag+. Unless you lose something in your own home, yard, etc where you can hear the beeping. Dont expect to find it.

These are facts. I have 3 of the SmartTag+ and they are worthless outside of the home/phone they were used to setup with. Oh, the battery life is abysmal as well.

lol yeah same with the tile. If its in a place where you can hear it beep you'll probably find it anyway.

The thing I like about these is there is no subscription needed, unlike tile. With smarttag+, you smarthings app can show you where the item is but agree the battery life is abysmal. I have both tile and smarttag and debating on which to go with moving forward. The thing with tile, they have the little tiny tiles for remotes, etc.

Please educate them. Monopoly (having iPhones only) is not good for anybody. Evem the current duopoly (iOS and Android) is not enough.

Is my understanding below correct?
To find a smarttag outside bluetooth range, the tag need to be able to ping a newer Galaxy device (not any Samsung phone) with the SmartThings app installed and the find option enabled in the app?
No wonder folks can't find them outside their homes.
