This camera is from 2016, so it isn't the latest and greatest mirrorless camera on the market. That is why it is only $500 new. However, it is still a very good camera. Camera sensor tech kind of peaked around 2014 and was almost as good a couple years prior. In terms of image quality, the improvements since have more so been incremental than revolutionary. More substantial improvements have been made with autofocus since, particularly in mirrorless cameras or for video.
The G85's smaller sensor will mean it won't handle low light quite as well compared to most Canon or Nikon DSLRs. But this will be much better for video than most DSLRs and has in-body image stabilization (also great for stills when using lenses without IS). It probably also offers considerably more features than your DSLRs, especially if using an entry level body. You may or may not care about the extra features. And the smaller sensor along with lack of a mirror means it can be smaller and lighter. It also offers some weather sealing, most entry level DSLRs do not and will be much more vulnerable in harsh conditions.
If only caring about photos I'd not upgrade to this from DSLRs from about 2012 or newer. The exception would be lowest Canon models (T100, T5, T6), which I'd gladly swap for something better which includes this G85. But there are plenty of other options out there, at least if you consider used. Chip shortages have really hurt new camera availability and pricing.
The D3200 has a larger sensor, but the g85 has a newer sensor and in body stabilization, so in practice you can get similar results. The included lens with the G85 isn't that fast, so you'd want a faster lens for low light.
If you already have multiple Nikon lenses and are fine with the system, I'm not sure this camera would make a lot of sense for you. The advantage of MFT over the Nikon you have is generally smaller lenses and smaller bodies (although this is a relatively large mft body).
I have a gx85 and thinking of grabbing this as a second body and for the lens which has an MSRP the same as this bundle.
Not really an upgrade per se, but it could be better or worse depending on your needs. The Canon will have better auto-focus, a larger sensor with more pixels, and longer battery life. The G85 has in body stabilization, shoots 4k, is smaller, and will be easier to use with manual focus lenses (it has focus peaking).
If you are happy with your Canon no need to buy another camera even if it's a good deal.

This camera worth it ? I have a Nikon D3200, is it worth replacing that with this ?? I hear the low light shooting capabilities on this G85 are nowhere near what the 3200 can do ....thanks for any input

I have this camera. The video recording capabilities are the highlight here. 4k/30 looks very good. It's getting a little old so it's missing some higher end features but it still does the basics well.
I have a Canon rebel t6i with 12-55mm lens and 50mm 1.2f lens. Thinking for an upgrade.
Is this a better upgrade in $1k range?

No, unless you need 4k video. Your APS-C sensor is 86% LARGER than the m4/3 sensor in the G85. IQ is generally better with APS-C, mostly depending on the lens. The Canon APS-C has a crop factor of 1.6x so if using a 300mm lens, you can crop out to 480mm. Low/lower light and the Canon wins again. Canon lenses are less expensive and your choices are the largest of any mfg. If you are unhappy with your photos, it's the indian and not the arrow. Take a class, learn to post process RAW files with the many software programs and some offering free trials or even free. Maybe time for a lens upgrade.

For those wondering about upgrading from DSLRs...

Anyone know how this compares to the GH5 for video? I'm running a GH5 for livestreams (through OBS with a capture card), and it would be sweet to have a body that can be used for an alternate angle and a backup.. not sure if this would be worth it or spend a couple hundred more for another GH5. I suppose with the GH6 arriving shortly the GH5 bodies may drop in price..
Amazing camera , have owned it for a couple of years now . The main key here is the in body stabilization and 4k . All the other dslrs at this price point don't have this . This means you CAN get shots with more captured light because the stabilization is so good . I can hold this camera for a solid 3 seconds at least and up the shutter speed and have an amazing shot at low light . Compared it to my friends dslr with larger sensor (low aperture lenses used) and mine always came out cleaner with less noise . It's not the tool but the artist !!! Great all rounder , of course newer canons and sonys have better focusing . But for a camera that has all these features , doubt there is something better .
I have an older GH1 which I rarely use these days because phone cameras have evolved so much that for everyday photos it's hard to justify carrying it around. I still have a bunch of m3/4 lenses though. Is the G85 much better in terms of picture quality than the GH1? I don't care much about the 4k video.

Yes but you need another application. I use the Elgato Cam Link 4K. Super easy, plug and play setup with the Lumix.
