This would be good for 1080p gaming but you should definitely upgrade the RAM to 16GB minimum as many games are utilizing more RAM and the 1660ti only has 6GB of VRAM.

I want to like this but it's basically bare minimum specs. Not horrible, but there's been better deals coming and going.

If you upgrade the $640 HP deal linked below to the Ryzen 5 5600G (6C/12T) the total comes out to $740; therefore, this Asus deal is $60 overpriced.

The 1660 Ti gpu on this deal is better than the 1660 Super on the HP deal. I think you have to factor that in too. There's a $40 MSRP difference in those cards, but that is likely higher considering current in-the-wild prices.

My AMD 3700x /1660 ROG Strix had cheap components in it. DRAM was 'nude' Hynix, motherboard was their budget model, and they did not even put the Wraith cooler on the CPU. They used some tiny aftermarket one. Power supply I don't recall, but it was a no-name brand. SSD I think was a bare Inland as I recall.

exactly...the proprietary nature of HP/Dell/other big brands makes me never want to buy a desktop gaming pc from them.

Yeah I'd pay the extra $60 to have a standardized/replaceable motherboard, case, PSU, any day.

The 900$ deal at microcenter is better for 100$ more.

All parts are standard form factor in these in case anybody is wondering. If you're going to run it stock, get a second 90mm fan for the bottom front and a fan splitter cable.

I was bitching about the 14 day return policy for electronics and just looked and see they went back to 30 days...
Never mind.
Peace

There was quite a few downsides to this one. Proprietary PSU/Mobo, no room for airflow in case or adding disk, cpu cooler is trash, single channel memory out of the box

Neither of these deals are doing it for me. They are getting better though.
