yes, this is the new version:

https://smile.amazon.com/Castrol-...09M982T3B/

frankly, without starting a debate, any decent full synthetic in the $10-$20 range is fine enough for everday use if changed regularly. but if you have an exotic or luxury car, you'll probably want something with european specs.

Good deal. Even the Walmart in-house brand is now $20. Then again, what hasn't increased in price.

You don't get a discount for 'no tomatoes,' but you always pay more for 'extra cheese.'

Unless you are pushing big change interval mileage, this Magnatec seems good as any. I've used it in my turbo Civic for several changes and I notice no difference with other synthetics. The engine is dead quiet from a mechanical clatter standpoint so what's not to like?

Thanks OP, I unfortunately have to do an oil change soon, and didn't realize there aren't any good synthetic deals right now.

Does anyone know how this Pennzoil compares the to oil in the deal? Besides having to go to Walmart.

Depends on what kinda car you have. This Castrol is dexos1 gen 2 certified which means it protects against LSPI for vehicles with smaller turbocharged engines. If your vehicle doesn't have a turbocharged engine, then you're fine with either. But if you do, you're better off going with this Castrol over the Pennzoil.

Quick question, do I have to replace the High mileage synthetic motor oil after six months? I have a truck that sits around all day just staring at me, gets very minimal use.
I put maybe 800 a year on my truck, I almost buy more batteries than oil, lol. But anyways, I change once in the spring, and honestly feel like that might be too soon, but it's so quick, cheap, and easy to do, that I'd rather not risk it on a 245,000 mile engine.

I have a Chevy truck that I got 10 years ago that gets maybe 2500 miles per year. I change the oil once a year and it's still running well.

Maybe they are clearing this out? On the product page (at least for 0W-20), it says:

ATTENTION: Castrol GTX Magnatec will be transitioning to a brand NEW Castrol product, GTX Full Synthetic, on January 1st 2022.
New Dexos approval.

Awesome. I hate paying a lot of money for oil because my car takes about 4 quarts and I get stuck with 1/5 filled bottles every time.
Not the 5th time.....you get a free oil change. Lol

Yep. Unless you're using your vehicle for super heavy duty stuff or you have a design flaw (or as European manufacturers call them, "advanced features"), then you can get several hundred thousand miles out lubrication in most modern cars by just changing the oil and making sure you're halfway paying attention to the type/weight.

Soooo many endless internet arguments are like "5w-30 sucks, 5w-40 is way better" from people who buy new cars every few years.
"Design flaw" LOL! Thanks for the chuckle! LMAO Applause

Lol. All of my prior cars used fractions of a bottle, or a bottle and a half, so I got pretty good at Oil Math. Our current Hondacura 3.5 V6 uses exactly 5 quarts and is super convenient in that regard.
Oil Math... I like that. I just pour all my left overs into a one bottle and view it like a sandwich punch card. 10 changes from now if I can still find the bottle then I get a free one!

My rule of thumb is to do at least 1 oil change a year. I don't drive very much and probably put 3k-5k miles a year so its perfect for me. If you drive even less than that, its OK to just do one every year instead of 6 months.

So, just an endorsement for anyone on the fence about the quality here. I had been trying to find a solution to an issue on my truck where the timing chain stretch was causing some clatter which will result in eventual failure and a $5k repair. I've tried additives and other oils, but this is the first one that caused the issue to stop and its never come back. It lived up to its promise which is unbelievable since all the marketing on oil bottles are usually just marketing buzz words. I now only use this in my vehicles (until I get all electric and can ditch these ancient dinosaur-driven fossils and their constant maintenance). Hopefully the name change doesn't change the characteristics of the oil itself.

If you live in a non-humid place and vehicle is garaged and decent quality oil is used and mileage is low, less than 5k, I say every 24 months is fine. Do whatever you're comfortable with but actual risk of causing damage is non existent.

A brand new car could sit on a lot for a year or more, then get sold and go a full interval. I get the once every 12 months manufacturers recommend from a cya perspective but I think it's overkill if you're not in a humid environment. To each their own.
