Just built a machine with a 5800x. This is so tempting, but I know it would be a pointless upgrade for gaming.

Edit: I hate you guys, I just ordered it. This price is ridiculous.

What? AMD is still outselling Intel in the desktop segment. It's not even close; as of December, Intel had only just begun to crest 30% again.

It's about time to upgrade but I haven't kept track of desktop stuff for a few years. This or wait for the AM5 socket? Mainly graphic design, MMO gaming and some video editing here.

Because AMD CPU's we're basically out of stock until a week or 2 ago?
My son was wanting to upgrade his CPU and motherboard before Christmas and AMD basically wasn't an option to buy anywhere.

I know back in the day AMD processors had issues with heat - whereas Intels would throttle back, AMDs would melt. Have they improved on that? I'm begrudgingly looking to upgrade my i7-3770 setup to accommodate Win11.
