If we only had a wee bit more investment in our infrastructure maybe we could have roads as nice as most other western nations and public transit that makes proper sense to use. We've fallen so far behind the curve it's rather embarrassing considering the wealth of resources and capital we have.

Acela cutting edge high speed travel. Dang would be nice if we could get some real high speed trains in the US. We have the chitty chitty bang bang equivalent at the moment. 🤣

I took an Amtrak from Chicago to Boston once. It was 8 hours late. Even with BOGO I'll pay a little more and fly. U.S. inter-city rail is terrible. Our subways and rail systems are a joke. I'm not expecting is to ever reach Japan levels of awesome, but even BFE suburbs in Rome have better rail than NYC. It's just something we're real bad at.

A One Way from DC to NYC on Acela using the BOGO is $258, and another $258 to get back for a total of $516.

It's $258 for two roundtrip tickets.

What day did you pick? I just randomly tried DC to NYC in July and it was only $29 each way (coach) like the op suggested. This was also before putting in the promo code.

Acela is business class fare, the $29 is not for Acela it is for coach seat on regular train.

The trains stop at various stations along the way. And last I recall, it's not a single train journey either.

The 50th anniversary sale last summer was incredible. I think we went from Seattle to Chicago for $49/person. DC to Philly and then NYC was also crazy cheap. This may not be quite as good, but it seems like a good deal nonetheless.

Long trips can be fun if you have a sleeper car and aren't worried about absorbing an 8 h our delay.

But sleeper cars end up costing more than flying and staying at a nice hotel...and taking a long trip in coach is miserable.

Does a NYC to Philadelphia and then a Philadelphia to DC require changing trains?
