I see people only care about the trade in value of the old phone, but the real catch here is the 36 months lock in service with AT&T.

The cheapest monthly fee is 4GB plan which costs $50/month + tax and all applicable fees, the total will be around $65 per month. For entire 3 years of period you will be paying AT&T about $2340 in total. And you have to aware that this new phone will decrese its value in 3 years, most Samsung phones will decrese its value by almost half in just a year. But the AT&T monthly fee will not decrease along with the phone value.
These "deals" do not make any sense. You can buy the phone unlocked directly from samsung.com. Charge the purchase to a credit card that offers no interest financing for 12-months (or 18 if you have a really good card). You can pay for wireless service on a pre-paid plan from AT&T (they have a $300 upfront annual payment for 8GB of data per month). With tax that averages to about $25-$27 a month for your phone service. Over the course of three years you actually save yourself about $800 buying it unlocked (and you save even more if you DO have a phone to trade-in with Samsung).

What?! 🧐
Still using my purple, 256GB Samsung Galaxy S9+ after 3 years this past Christmas. It's in PERFECT condition and STILL kicks ass as if it were new!!
🤔 Maybe you just need a better phone to start with, if you don't want to use it for 3 years. 🤷🏻 👌
Well, I'm back on my S9 now... after using an S20 for 18 months. The S20 destroyed it, at least in the camera. It was painful going back, especially to crappy battery life.

So yeah, if you don't need new features, MAYBE you can get 3 years out of a phone without adding the battery. But once you try the new technology, it's addictive.

Hey does it matter which phone service the original phone was used or "locked" to? Say if it's from Sprint or Metro? Does the used phone need to be unlocked or just in working condition?

Please let me know. I'd like to get $800 off s22 ultra. I have an S10+ 512gb but I'd rather keep this one as a spare phone.

According to this deal , total cost of owning after 36 months.
($70 + $11.5) x 36 = $2952
Above is excluding trade-in cost.

In a prepaid $30/m plan, buy phone for $1200
($30 x 36) + 1200 = $2280, and no trade in too.

Except that you'll get an unlimited plan, how is this a deal?

So I have a current installment plan with AT&T with my Z Flip 3 (credits being applied to my bill) and I have the $5 Next Upgrade option. If I trade-in my Z Flip 3 for an S22, will I be eligible for the $800 credits?

The short answer is no
I have a Note 20 that has 14 payments left on the Next plan (got it on 9/2020)
If I use the Note 20 as an upgrade and keep the next plan they are offering a $350 discount
it comes to $23 a month for the S22 Ultra / 256 in Green
and of corse I'll be eligible for another upgrade in 16 months

Can you give me a breakdown of your cost +fee? I want to switch from mobile share plan with 7 lines to the unlimited plan but I am afraid it's going to be way more expensive than my legacy 32/line plan with all fees and taxes
4 lines on the unlimited starter plan @$45/line. Autopay discount of $10/line. Taxes and fees at $6.25/line. Total before phones is $41.25/line

Experts here what is the catch? I have an old Pixel 3XL which it is showing as 800 credit. Can I get a Samsung S21 Ultra? I have AT&T number from work but no work software on my phone. Can I just pop it into the phone and everything is set?
S22 you mean? Yes. It gets the full trade in credit.

Nope.

Firstly, that only applies if you have the most expensive unlimited plan and then it maxes out at $700.

Second, there are a ton of caveats with which phones they will accept.

Thank you. Come again.
If you add a line, you will get $1000. It makes sense if you are in Verizon family plan though.

Anyone knows if S22 Ultra 512GB version will have 8GB or 12GB or 16GB ram? Per Samsung, all S22 Ultra 512GB has 16GB ram but att site says 8GB, tmobile site says 12gb
12gb. 256 and up get it.

Can you go to a store to do the trade-in? Have heard horror stories about shipping trade in
Corporate only and they will mark value there. I won't mail in due to horror stories. Never had a issue going in.

As someone who always keeps their old devices, I'm super annoyed that every recent ATT deal seemingly requires a trade in. Looking at you IPhone 13 Pro Max.

Sucks that it applies only to the unlimited plan. With 3 devices, I never hit my max gigs...it would cost $60 more a month to switch from my grandfathered to unlimited. Boo Hoo.
