This definitely seems like a worse deal than the 80K mile offers (or maybe it was even higher?). It says you get the pass after spending 5K in 3 months which is relatively heavy spending....but lets say you apply and get the card in 1 week 2/18/22, then complete the spending requirements in 2 months (2.5k a month) instead of 3) earliest you would get the companion pass would be 4/18/22 and it will expire on 2/28/23 so only 10 months of use) (most likely tied to statement date or something of the like - so likely even less). The 50K difference in flights is enough to cover at least 2 RT flights and likely more. Whereas with the 80K sign up bonus if you work the way to the companion pass you end up with the remainder of the year you qualify and the following year for free companion flights and you have more miles to book with......this one is a pass
Someone can travel with you whenever you do, for free. You still pay tax on fare. The pass lasts 1y.

It's a nice deal, you have to factor in how many times you would use it in a year to calculate the saving. Often southwest tickets are cheap in first place. Meanwhile there are other non related credit cards out there with 80,000-100,000 points which I think is a better deal.

If you are a hardcore flyer on southwest, it would be a slickdeal.
Only 4 people total. Once you set your companion, you can only change it 3 times.

Please explain how it's so bad? For me, I will be flying with my family of 4 to at least 4 destinations before February 2023. This will save us a ton of money. We already have a bunch of chase points saved up from not flying the last two covid years along with young babies.
It's a great deal to get the companion pass the fastest way. Next year, have your spouse done it after yours expires

Because end of last year (if you timed it correctly and posted it in January) they had an offer of 100,000 points on a $10,000 spend in 90 days. Meaning you only needed 15,000 more points to earn CP until 2024. So you end up with CP for 2 years vs 1 plus an extra 70,000 points. Easy to fly for free for 2 people around 10x depending when you book/where you are going.

Hi all,
I have a CSR and actually just cancelled a rapids rewards card which I used for CP pre covid. I also have a prime card and a an original freedom card. We now have a kid and are undecided about flying this year. At best, we will take two flights at about 10-15k points each (reg cost).

A) Does the 5/24 rule have any caveats about applying for a card that was just cancelled to get promos?

B) I think we can hit 5k spending with all of our insurance premiums due next month plus gas...
I love my CSR redemption bonus. And I usually max out PayPal quarterly promo on freedom.
****But-> is there another card I should look into for general day to day usage over this CP promo? I know that is a tough one to answer with minimal context. Just not sure if I should jump on this or not.

I fly with southwest about 25 round trips a year and my wife is sitting next to me on almost every flight. Her roundi-trip flight is $11.20. Who can say they flew to Hawaii for $11.20. My wife can. We have saved thousands of dollars on southwest with the companion pass. I would say this is a great deal. So why not?

Does the companion pass send after the $5k is spent or after the $5k is paid off? Or is it after the statement which completes the $5k?

It can take up to 30-60 days after statement posts but normally is much quicker than that.

A) I believe you need to be 24 months past the last signup bonus received for the same card in order to re-apply and get the new signup bonus. So not necessarily 5/24 rule but somewhat similar. You'll need to check when you last got the signup bonus because they won't deny your application, you could get approved for the card but not be eligible for the bonus.

B) Only other card I would think of as a better day-to-day card with your current cards would be the Freedom Unlimited which is 1.5% on everything and 3% for a couple categories.

Should be accessible first statement after hitting the $5k req. Doesn't need to be payed off.

Priority Card has $149 annual fee but it gives $75 credit and 7500 anniversary points. Does this mean Card is virtually free (no annual fee) ?

or better to choose low fee card. I usuallu travel 4-5 times a year with my partner within US. Not sure which one to pick.

The 7500 points is on your anniversary, so you will be effectively paying 75$ the first year after you factor in the 75$ credit (which can apply to gift cards on SW website). Every year after though is virtually no annual fee after these perks

No assigned seating? Good luck getting that someone sit next to you. SW is for singles and couples who don't mind basketball-style blocking for seats. Not a family friendly airline.

Really? I would like to say at least 70% of the people will get to sit next to their traveling companion. A family of 5 might have a little difficulty, but a party of 2 or even 3 is not bad at all.

Yeah this is lame. I signed up and did the 5k spend. It took me 32 days so I won't have companion until May. Leaving me with companion only for 10 months. And I had to pay $69 and only get 30k points.
