Amazon renewed A80J (sold by woot)

Only 90 day warranty but pretty solid price and could always buy an upsie warranty if needed.

If I didn't buy a brand new one already, I'd be all over this.

This seems like a decent deal. But so much money to spend without a warranty. Looking at the Upsie warranty- but it doesn't seem like they don't cover refurbished tvs per the FAQ. I don't know if I'd be comfortable shelling this kind of money without some sort of warranty.

Woot is owned by amazon. Amazon usually uses woot to sell items at a lower price.

Great for everything except gaming. Sony A80J has very bad image retention, screen dimming, abl, etc while gaming.

Such a shame, as it's an excellent and beautiful looking display. Sony's software causes this and as of today nothing can be done to prevent this.

The higher model A90J has a heat sink which doesn't have this problem (much more expensive and only 55",65" and 83" size)

If you're a gamer I suggest the LG C1 or even G2 (5 year warranty) as they are amongst the best and actually give you control over your display.

Gaming, I'd largely agree unless you are just a PS5 user... PS5 doesn't do VRR anyways so its kinda useless on this TV.

I have both the 77 A80J and a 55 G1... the sony is better in some regards, but overall I like the G1 the best. The G2 should be even better. I would have gone with the 77" G1 but at the time 800 dollar difference was too much

Sony normally has the better color accuracy. For OLED also look at the brightness which is its inherent weakness. Not sure which one is brighter but it is a very important factor as well except if you already started with 1000 nits which is not the case for OLED

Can you cite your source for this? I haven't seen anyone who claims to own an A80J mention image retention as being a problem so far.

All OLED tvs have this problem. Indeed Sony oled is made by LG and tuned by Sony. If you watch same content everyday or play same game or plan to use it as computer screen then not buy an oled or expect it to happen sometime before your tv fails for any other reason

What you're describing is burn-in, which by and large seems to be more of a theoretical problem than a practical one based on owner reviews so far. It was a big issue for the panels in LG's B series panels a couple years back for sure, and granted even early buyers of the A80J haven't had theirs nearly as long, but I can't see that alone being a reason to not recommend one for anyone looking in this tier of TV.

Sony had a higher standard than most other OLED.

however the one I got from Costco brand new 77inch, had banding vertically. I asked Costco exchanged one, and no more banding.

i'd say, don't save couple hundred, just go for a new one.
