Apple is expected to introduce new Macs on March 8 so if you're not in a hurry you may as well wait.
In general it's smart to prefer a 16GB RAM model since you can't expand that whereas you can add more storage with an external drive, nas, etc. but ymmv.
Yes it's even lower priced than Apple's refurbished MacBook airs. Which come with a one-year warranty and a 14 day return policy. Costco has a two-year warranty and a 90 day return policy.

Is this the lowest from Costco? I'm in the market for one of these for my wife, but it's not urgent.

Thank you, both (repped). She doesn't need the latest and greatest. I might just get this one and keep an eye on any near-release discounts (if any) on the new ones, as well as some additional discounts on the current model, during the 90 day return period.

The newer model is expected to be in different colors (much like the new iMac's) if aesthetics are important. Also should include the new M2 chip, so it's future proofing a little bit. I am pretty sure Costco has a 90 day return on them, and the event is March 8th; so if you pull the trigger you could always upgrade without penalty. I just missed the deal on the pro last week and I'm kicking myself for it. I would have done exactly what I stated.

Guys, suggestions are appreciated.
I don't need more storage. I would like to know if it makes big difference between this and $850 one that we got in Costco now. This is 8 core and $850 is 7 core, do they make big difference and worth to pay $200 more?

I'd say no. Go for the 850 one if you do not need 512 storage. Many reviews say base model M1 is fine and you will not notice a difference.
The timing is great on this I've been eyeing for a while and was thinking of pulling the trigger till I heard a possibility that they'd be refreshed but I'll jump on this with the 90 day return policy

That's what I would do.
I think the other poster read the rumors but not closely enough.
Apple plans on releasing a new entry level Macbook Pro NOT a new Macbook Air.
90 days is still a good window since March 8 is when the new models will be announced but I doubt we see both a new Air and Macbook Pro 13 entry but who knows

There are rumors out (Macrumors, etc) saying the M2 MBA won't be out until 2nd half of the year. Supposedly only an updated M2 13" MBP in same case will be pushed out at the March event. But agree a good strategy w/ Costco's return policy is buy now and hold until March 8 when the smoke clears.

I don't know what tasks you use your computer for but unless you edit a decent amount of video or photos you wouldn't notice a difference, and even then you still might not notice a difference. The big leap in power is with the M1 Pro and Pro Max processors.
