Apple is expected to introduce new Macs on March 8 so if you're not in a hurry you may as well wait.
In general it's smart to prefer a 16GB RAM model since you can't expand that whereas you can add more storage with an external drive, nas, etc. but ymmv.
Yes it's even lower priced than Apple's refurbished MacBook airs. Which come with a one-year warranty and a 14 day return policy. Costco has a two-year warranty and a 90 day return policy.
Thank you, both (repped). She doesn't need the latest and greatest. I might just get this one and keep an eye on any near-release discounts (if any) on the new ones, as well as some additional discounts on the current model, during the 90 day return period.
Don't forget, retailers will charge MSRP, $1249 (current), for about 9mo's or more on the new model, IF it is released next month. So don't expect discounts until the end of the year. And if you pay for 16gb on a Macbook (which is not available on the current Air), that extra RAM comes at a $200 premium on Macbooks.

Its shocking how good of a computer these are. I have a few macbook pros, intel laptops with 3060s, desktop computers with 5900x's etc. My M1 Macbook air (base base model) is what I use 95% of the time.

Most reviews I've seen don't seem to think the RAM is as essential with Apple's new chips being so fast.

I've been a RAM snob my whole life. I got the 8GB M1 Air for $750 from BB a while back and I have been impressed. Very few people need 16GB, especially when it's a 20% increase in price.
RAM is more important than storage.
with the external ssd and thunderbolt, you can easily extend the storage yourself. what's the point to pay extra for storage instead of RAM ??

Could try for a price match at BB.
Microcenter also has had it at this price recently, though not currently.
