I bought this over the Roland. It is touch sensitive and weighted. That is all I need for a good beginner piano. Getting this for my daughter who is 8 and interested in learning. If she does not like...I have two more kids that maybe will take a liking to this.

I found that Casio Music says "There is no difference between the CDP-S100 and CDP-S90. They are the same product, with different numbers for different retail markets."

Thanks OP

Good question. And regardless, this is a shock deal even if you had to replace the stool. Full 88 keys, weighed and touch sensitive, and shipping included, under $400? Very nice.

Is this good for a newbie who wants to learn how to play and has never played before?

I don't know, but if you have to ask, probably not enough. Surely it's made from particle board. At any weight. I'd recommend using some Gorilla Glue when putting it together and waiting a whole day and a half before assuming glue is dry. Better yet make it without glue first and if you don't return product after a month, put bench back together and glue it after you know you are keeping it.

I'm ~240# and not scared with 45# kid with me. It is decent metal.

This has great features if a person bothers to read the manual. Otherwise, decent weighted keys, they do make a little click on upward return. Read the manual! Inputs and outputs, the learning stuffs...

It has a very nice sound, and is graded. I believe these are essentially throwbacks to the Privia Px-1x0 line that became outdated with the launch of the CDP-S1000 and S3000. Another thing is that it has 88 keys, so they will not be limited in song choices.

For what it is worth, the Privia Px line had much better action than the S1K and S3K ever did. So it isn't bad at all to learn on, but the better they get, the more limited the polyphony will be.

Just compare the specs, they're pretty much identical.
