Sr Engineer here.
a) you don't need this powerhouse to "learn to code", even rasb pi will suffice
b) work typically buys you a machine
c) you don't need 32Gb of memory unless you running heavy orchestration or lots of VMs
d) my daily driver is MBA with 8Gb of memory (needed one ASAP when they come out, could not wait for 16Gb delivery). I would be happier with 16Gb model but 8Gb chugs through all my tasks without issues. It got slightly slower on Monterey but not to a level of discomfort. Prior to upgrading, I didn't have a single issue with performance.

Rumored.

As an apple investor I don't think apple would come out with m2 in a 13" pro it's going to confuse their product line too much. If they do they will emphasize that it's a more efficient m1 but less powerful than m1 pro

They do releases with intention.

M2 also is not twice as good as m1 base, were just now all on arm architecture, soon no one will care, it's like a7 vs a8, the iphone was already faster than 99.9999% of androids so it's basically irrelevant. No normal consumer knows what iphone first had a8
Is m2 going to better than m1 pro/max? Or will you need to wait for m2 pro/max for that?

The new one coming out is not a competitor to this, it's replacing the entry level MBP.

M2 will be positioned below the processor in this computer

The rumored "new" 13" MBP won't hold a candle to this 14" MBP. We won't know for sure until Timmy tells us, but the rumor is the new 13" won't have any new features, just a new chip. The 14" MBP has many features the 13" does not (screen, speakers, ports, etc.).

It's will be faster single-core of course, but won't have the same # of GPU cores.

Performance-wise the M1 has quite a bit of compute already unless you're focused on GPU-oriented tasks which you would know you need if you actually needed it.

For that reason, most people asking if "M2 is going to be better than M1 Pro/Max" should probably buy a MacBook Air.

For anyone interested in the difference between this mac's M1 Pro chip and the upcoming M2.....

https://appleinsider.com/articles...ion#P2C%28

Im on an old 2013 13" Macbook pro Retina, its served me well and still works great, but Im tempted by this even if this macbook is so expensive. The new features it has are well worth it, but the discount barely covers sales tax.

Ah debating if I should get this or shell out for 32gb. Trying to learn to code and eventually go into software development.

Processor market on phones is different to computers. While a series dominates on phones in terms of performance, pc is a different ball game and intel 12th gen is still king. Battery life though is where apple shines consistently

I wanted the 32gb also but it was a 2 month wait through apple. Also with the way they use their memory 32gb is nice but it does not use it like other intel silicon, check out some youtube videos on m1 16gb vs 32gb
