a) you don't need this powerhouse to "learn to code", even rasb pi will suffice
b) work typically buys you a machine
c) you don't need 32Gb of memory unless you running heavy orchestration or lots of VMs
d) my daily driver is MBA with 8Gb of memory (needed one ASAP when they come out, could not wait for 16Gb delivery). I would be happier with 16Gb model but 8Gb chugs through all my tasks without issues. It got slightly slower on Monterey but not to a level of discomfort. Prior to upgrading, I didn't have a single issue with performance.

As an apple investor I don't think apple would come out with m2 in a 13" pro it's going to confuse their product line too much. If they do they will emphasize that it's a more efficient m1 but less powerful than m1 pro
They do releases with intention.
M2 also is not twice as good as m1 base, were just now all on arm architecture, soon no one will care, it's like a7 vs a8, the iphone was already faster than 99.9999% of androids so it's basically irrelevant. No normal consumer knows what iphone first had a8
I wanted the 1TB SSD rather than the 512GB and without having to 'customize' it on the Apple store this is the next best thing.
This is coming from a lifetime of PC use both business/personal, time for a change. Not going to debate why Apple is more expensive than everyone else or PC vs. Mac debate, but to have everything 'just work' and 'efficiently' is uncommon in the IT world.
Supposedly M2 isn't as powerful but possibly more efficient minus the pro motion screen for those 'Lite' users. Similarly with the upcoming MacBook Air.

The last deal with 14" and 512gb SSD only had a 60w power brick I think, this meant you had to buy another one to use fast charging. The 14" with 1TB is supposed to come with the 96w power brick. This is similar to the basic 24" iMac having less ports and no touch keyboard, than the model $400 up had.
The new chips do very well with memory, so 16GB is more than enough for most people. You can order 32gb to future proof it, but your better off spending extra to get 1TB of ssd space. Costco also takes $60 off the normal price of apple care, if Im paying $2000+ for a laptop, then $200 for 3 years is worth it, considering this model is brand new.
Im sure Costco will have a few hundred off a 16" model soon if your unsure, but the 14" model seemed to have a lot of the right features I have been waiting for.
