I did the same today. Another $10 Nintendo GC for $5. Used my trade-in credit online to make it even cheaper. I can confirm the $5 GC no longer works but $10 still works as of today. Already redeemed successfully on Nintendo eshop too.

I bought a $10 gc online aa suggested by others. $5 doesnt work online. Dont want to waste gas and time to visit a store so not sure if it works there.
