Lutron sells switches that don't require a neutral. Expensive.
I do imagine it's hard to make profits on a $10 switch that will need cloud and app updates for years to come. Honestly I'd pay some reasonable monthly fee to keep my 20 Kasa devices working.

Just a guess, but tp link wouldn't want a shit storm of people dropping them as a brand that doesn't support their products in the long term.
