My first deal post. Good deal on a well-reviewed inverter generator. Free shipping and no sales tax when purchased directly from Wen. Amazon has it for the same price but sales tax would apply.

I'm on the fence. I noticed some of these have dual fuel, which seems handy.

I work for a wireless ISP and we use 2200w dual fuel generators at site locations when power is going to be out beyond our battery backup life. We never put gasoline in them and only use LP. They are amazing for emergency generators because you know your generator is going to start every time with no issues. LP is less efficient than gasoline so it cost more to run on LP. If you are looking for a generator that will be used only in emergency or very limited times I highly recommend LP as it won't go bad as the generator sits unused.

These are the ones we use. We also have a larger unit on a small trailer.

I just bought a dual fuel inverter so I wouldn't have to keep gas on hand. I always have propane and it's much easier to store an extra tank of propane than it is to keep rotating ethanol free gas. Also propane runs cleaner and doesn't muck up the insides of the engine like ethanol gasoline does. A conversion kit to propane seems to be 150-200 so for me it just made more sense to buy the more expensive generator that was already ready for propane than buying a unit and then having to buy and install a kit.

That's a great point! How long does a tank last?

Same! I am currently selling my gas generator/inverter to get a duel fuel model. You can keep several propane tanks on hand and never have to worry about the gas going bad.

I bought the Champion version [championpowerequipment.com] which is listed as a 2400 watt but if you look at the specs they are the same, same engine same wattage

Champion lists up tp a 34 hour max runtime on 20lbs of propane but it varies depending on load.

Bought my Westinghouse with remote start for 700. Can still get for 800. 4400 watts. It's an amazing generator with parallel capability. Would rather get that.

There are pros and cons to the dual fuel. The biggest advantage is you just put it away when you're done. No concern about stale gas. My home backup is dual fuel and I stored it with no prep, pulled it out a year later, hooked up the tank, and it fired right up. On the flipside, propane will not give you your advertised wattage. You lose 10-15%. Also, a quick emergency tank fill is not as convenient as gas.

With that, I have found it simpler for storm prep to hit Ace for propane while everyone is in line at the gas station. I keep propane and gas on hand when a storm is coming, in case the propane runs out. I try not to use the gas since that generator is stored for extended periods of time. When the storm passes, the gas goes in the cars so there aren't any stale gas issues.

It really depends on your use. For mobility, carrying the generator and the propane for dual fuel is not convenient. For camping, you could hook to onboard propane but then you kill your onboard tanks. Which leaves the decision of whether to carry an extra tank.

I now have my large 10k backup dual fuel, a 2200w dual fuel which I don't use, and two gas Igen2400 that I use the most. It's a lot easier to throw some gas in them and just take the generator(s) if I need some mobile power. When I'm done I usually run them dry. They only get filled with ethanol free with stabilizer. They can be run in parallel if I need more than 2400, and theyre only 50lb each to move.

Also, if you're OCD like me, you'll find yourself going out of your way to avoid putting gas in the dual fuel generator for fear of fouling up, and it makes the "dual" convenience not so convenient. Just some things to consider. I was big on dual fuel fan at first, but enjoy the convenience of gas for certain applications.

Thanks for the run down. I think most users on here are only looking for a storm/whatever knocked out my power gen so the points your making don't apply to many. Those points make a ton of sense for someone who wants to camp. I got one of the $250 2k watt gas gens a couple years back and am happy to not have had to use it yet. Should be enough to run fridge/chest freezer, pool pump, or window AC unit but not all 3. So I plan to rotate between them during an extended outage. I keep a couple 5 gallon tanks full during storm season and just rotate them into the cars to keep it from going stale.

If I didn't already have one this thing would be about ideal for me since at 3800 surge watt inverting you can run a ton of stuff keeping your fridge 1kwatt, computers 500 watt, tvs, fans, window AC 1200watt and everything going all the time. Not enough to run a whole house but enough to be pretty comfy when power is out.

If most are looking for use during power outages why would this unit be considered over others in this price range? Smaller form factor, some unique features, etc? I see lots of gas options with much higher output for a similar price point. My experience may be unique but I add gas with fuel stabilizer to my unit and run it 2-3 times per year. It's the Briggs and Stratton Storm Responder unit. Fires up every time. My brother got a tri fuel unit and hooked straight to his hardline on the side of his home for hurricane season. Definitely more pricy than the regular gas units though.

Can this handle a 1.5 ton AC with a soft starter?
