My store has gone almost entirely to self-service on these... and has told me that they don't really care what you pour. Basically, order iced coffee and get what you want.

I wonder if they will ever offer iced tea, lemonade or sod with the subscription. I have not paid for almost 2 years. I keep cancelling and resubscribe.

Yeah, my main location started doing that a few months ago. Then a few weeks later, other locations followed suit.

Now, I feel like I'm looting the place

I had it free for over a year. I stopped doing it when my store stopped inside service. Now to try to sit in the drive thru just to get coffee that isn't really that good, is just a waste of life.

What do you mean by "stopped inside service"?

Is that recent? A few years ago, Panera was pretty well known for having some of the best coffee around. I'd go there before Starbucks or any of my local places (but don't tell my local places!)
Sure, I've had better coffee elsewhere, either French press or pour over single cup brew. However, as far as fast food/fast casual go. I'd rank Panera as having better than average coffee. Their iced coffee is better than most and hot coffee usually always fresh tasting. At least all the ones I've one to.

My local store is drive thru only, other than they'll put doordash etc. orders inside the front door. Can't even order online through Panera for pick up.

Most likely due to staffing shortages or too many out sick. Many of the fast food restaurants have been doing this over the last 2 years around me. Also, many restaurants without drive thru's (dine in only) are closed on Mondays or Sunday to give staff a day off.

Panera's coffee taste is horrible. Signed up with six month free offer from AmEx Gold. I have tried all blends with different sweeteners and was unable to find even a decent tasting combination. In my personal opinion, it's not even worth free.

I just canceled and it said something along the lines of "you can still enjoy the service until March 22" Frown
Yes, the "join then cancel right away" is not good advice.

If you want the the whole 3 months, you shouldn't cancel until the 3rd month of your subscription begins. You can cancel any time inside that last month, and your still be enrolled for the rest of the last month. After cancelling, you'll get a message that your subscription will still get good until the end of that subscription month.

I haven't enjoyed their coffee in a long time. I remember they started to roll out these free coffee offers right before COVID shit everything down. Unfortunate timing.

Still, I can usually make it work with the dark roast, some hazelnut creamer, and a mix of sugar and sweetener. With all these free subscriptions, does anyone pay for coffee at Panera anymore?

Fine print says you can sign up and get this offer until 3/29, so don't need to immediately if you aren't going to use it soon.
