They say it's an all around tool but it can't even do anything besides cut

I bought this during a previous deal and it's performed well cutting heavy gauge wire. Dunno if I'd risk using a bolt cutter and possibly dulling the jaws. If that happened then they'd be worthless

Shipping is steep unless you're making a larger order, though.

That'd be a great deal if it included shipping, but shipping (and a separate handling charge) is about $22.13 extra. So, it'd be about $52 after shipping costs.

Ive considered buying cheap Knipex from this website before but chickened out because the discounts seemed too good to be true and their online presence seemed pretty thin.

Id be curious to hear from anyone who has experience ordering from them.

I've ordered from them - Knipex, in fact. It's a huge online retailer in Germany. They're legit... and their shipping prices are amazing. The only thing I'll warn you about is their customer service sucks. If you have an issue, there's not much support beyond emailing them, but usually there shouldn't be any problems. Also, shipping from Germany takes a couple weeks.

I have a bunch of Knipex staff, but this one is hard to justify besides looking good in the toolbox. I've had a Tekton $7 8" cutter and a Tekton $25 24" from Amazon for about 10 years now. I've yet to damage either of them despite cutting all kinds of randoms shits in the house.

8" is only mildly useful though - it's not much more powerful than lineman's pliers or side cutters. Usually, if something is too big for the pliers - I go straight to the 24" which is completely awesome. Not sure where I would use this little 6" Knipex.

Shows out of stock when I tried to check out, and then my citi card keeps getting declined through Apple Pay… citi's app is down for maintenance, and I don't feel like calling right this second… anyone else experiencing something similar?

I have the 8" version of these Knipex as well as the 8" tekton 'bolt cutters' you speak of. The two are not remotely in the same class. I can cut small rod or hardened wire all day with the Knipex, with less hand force. Tekton will do for the occasional cut, but the cuts are not as clean, and it does mangle my hands on harder wire. The flat profile that Tekton gives the handles for strength is a rollover hazard when really clamping down. The Tekton cutting edges are a broader angle, which is probably why they take so much more force for similar cuts, but it probably gives them toughness with cheaper metallurgy -- the cutting edges are holding up fine. For $8 (what I paid), the Tektons live in my van in a box of beater tools and occasionally save the day, but the Knipex live next to my workbench, see steady use, and go in my bag whenever I anticipate the need.

Interesting, that makes sense. Would you say 8" Knipex is significantly more powerful than your typical 9" lineman's pliers? Do you also have the 6" version of the Knipex cutters as well?

I found 24" has just so much more control and because of that is a much safer tool - I can put one handle on the floor and press the other one with one hand, using the free hand to position my rod or catch the pieces. I can also go much slower and don't get nearly as much shrapnel as from the 8" version. The 8" version is useful as straight shears for making straight cuts in a flat aluminum and other things like that.

All tools are hammers. Some tools do other stuff too.
