So why would you spend any money for a set that is no improvement over your current one?

Because I would gain a 'Slight' improvement in picture quality, 10" in screen real estate, and put $1700 back in my pocket Smilie.

FYI for those eligible — same price on Shopmyexchange with no tax. It's been this price for a few months now.

Not sure why we can't say anything about the "name your own price" websites, but I just had a counter offer I accepted for the X91J 85" for $1,999 including shipping and no tax to my state. Can't really beat that price.
What do you do for warranty when you buy from that site? Just the one year?
Costco gives 5 years so is there anything comparable? Costco normal price is $2400 but comes with 5 years warranty.

The x85J series is only 3840x1080 when running at 120hz. I have the 43" model and can confirm this. It's not good for PC use. Decent for gaming but I can definitely tell the difference between this TV and my LG CX in terms of resolution at 120hz.

What company does it ship from? Do you know what the warranty is?

You can buy an extended warranty, but manufacturer from Sony is 1-year. I bought and extra 2 years.

As per terms of the transaction, users aren't allowed to share what company it actually ships from.

How is the name your price web site going to know that you told me what company it ships from? Can you private message me the name? I just want to know if it is an authorized Sony dealer before I plop down $2000.

Is everyone buying ok with $2k but no local dimming? Seems to have good rating but some 77" oleds are not too far - $500 ish more than this.

Not everyone is a fan of local dimming especially if you are sensitive to sudden contrast changes. I prefer a constant picture with a set with a good rating for contrast levels.

An 85" set is a lot bigger than a 77". 83" oled is closer to compare and those run $5k. I recently replaced a budget 82" led with a 77" oled and while I don't regret it, the size loss was noticeable. 85" vs. 77" is not apples to apples.

Just my .02 but these 85 series Sony sets have been a good sweet spot value on sale. They don't have local dimming but the native contrast ratio is very good and the processing is excellent. You can spend a little more and get local dimming that doesn't really help contrast much but adds blooming... or you can spend a lot more and get meaningful contrast improvements with local dimming that works.

Bottom line is price always matters and there's a ton of options that all have different tradeoffs. These x85 sets represent strong values when on sale.

Good to know about the size difference from someone who owned both.

Cant find this at costco. Closest I found is Sony 85" Class - X91CJ Series. Looking at costco for included 5yr warranty.

Agreed! I just bought the 85" X91J... Full array with local dimming... It's absolutely stunning! I was hardcore Samsung, but decided to give Sony a try. Wow! Significantly cheaper in price when compared to Samsung, but that's where the "significant" differences end. I should have made the switch a long time ago.

This is the first time I've used the service, but they guarantee that all of their sellers are manufacturer authorized dealers. That's actually the reason buyers aren't allowed to disclose the retailer - because those retailers have agreements with Sony not to list cheaper than whatever Sony says. For instance, leading up to the SuperBowl the X91J was $2,198 at most places. And now it's $2,398 everywhere. And you won't find it listed less from an authorized dealer.

Anyway. When you agree to the price you are given a disclaimer not to disclose the retailer- and it actually says they can cancel your order if they see a disclosure on a site like this. And from previous threads I'm pretty sure their staff are active members.

I didn't post because I don't know if the deal can be replicated. I'm just sharing that for the same out the door price for the X85 in this thread that I was able to get the 91.
