I can say from personal experience that these Netgear switches have a habit of getting very hot. With the logic board lacking any heatsinks and the plastic housing not providing adequate transfer of heat, they have a tendency of failing.

I had two of these switches get so hot that the plastic housing would start to deform or become discolored. They would be fine for light usage, for when you are travelling or when you need a temporary network solution. I would not depend on one of these for continuous use in a high network traffic environment.

Yeah you can get a metal case one with better ratings for not much more, e.g. TP-Link TL-SG105 for $14.99 on amazon right now (w/ coupon). Personally I'd just invest in something like a FS108/FS108NA when they go on sale, think I've seen them at $28 or so.

Looks like an interesting deal. I'd like to grab a small one like this to stick in my laptop bag. The reviews looked promising at first with about 4.5 stars, but I saw a number of review saying that it starts to flake out after a while and will randomly slow down dramatically until you power cycle it (or some die prematurely). I'm thinking that's something that a number of people may not realize until well after they bought it and rated it, so the rating may be skewed higher than it should be. I don't know … normally I'd give something with lots of positive reviews a try, but think I may hold out for something else since it's not an immediate need. Flaky network gear can be frustrating to say the least.

Since the pandemic, I went from wireless stations to mostly wired for faster speeds. I added 2 switches (daisy chained). I purchased the TP-Link brand and has been rock solid. I don't recall ever having to power cycle them. Reliable and cheap!

Sold by Amazon for $15.99, or the 8-port for $19.99. The plastic ones from the OP does not come with a wall-mount, per reviews. I have installed a couple of the 4-port installed at a friend's small-business and so far has been great.

Thanks … I'll probably grab that one. I've never tried TP-Link, so had kind of steered away from looking at them, but with recommendations here and what appear to be some rather in-depth (and credible) good reviews from I.T. guys on Amazon, it looks like a better option.
