Anyway, the best deal to get a free Costco membership is become an Executive member. It's like $120 a year and you get a Citi Visa card with it. Use the card to buy gas at Costco (normally .25+ less a gallon and it's top tier fuel). You get 2% back for each purchase, plus Citi gives you 2% to 4% back on purchases.
I do this and routinely get back over $300 a year.

Additionally, I'd like to remind everyone that you can buy at Costco without membership and pay an extra 5%. Do the math on how much you go and how much you buy. If the extra 5% doesn't exceed the cost of membership, then it's not worth signing on. As an example, Costco is 75mins from me. We only went when we were in town for other reasons and we only bought non-perishable goods, paper products, detergents and the like. And I usually bought Kirkland brand and would wait for a sale. Paying an extra $5 on my total is no big deal if I'm only going 4x a year.

Another option, if you don't go to Costco often is to get a family member to help you buy a handful of Costco gift cards. You can shop there without a membership using their gift cards.
And the some of the items is cost more with the coupon compare to Walmart at BJ's!

I was going to use a credit card to shop there already, and now I'm not getting points back on that card. So to some extent I'm just shifting some rewards (please note that I said "some"). Yes, some things get me more rewards with their card, but I still wasn't earning enough to pay the executive upgrade off let alone the whole membership off.
Just factoring in the 2% extra back, you need to spend $3000 to get that $60 back. Yes, you're getting rewards back from Citi, but I'd get rewards back on most of my cards.
Bigger family and lots of cars that drive far will obviously get you more rewards, and it's helpful if you're super close to your Costco too.
