But why do people cry about refurbed or used SSDs?
Read the SMART data. If it looks good, it's probably good.
And well, if you cared about your data, you should have a backup solution in place anyways. Not just praying that a more expensive drive is hopefully more durable.
If you did buy the used Samsung, run CrystalDiskInfo to see how many times it was powered on and written to. At the end of the day, the used Samsung is $70 vs a new Intel for $90, I'll spend the extra $20 for piece of mind.

spindle refurbs i'm half in agreement. that said the bulk of my spindle storage were server pulls of enterprise drives and all but 2 of them (out of 30+) are still running in live environments. i might be a bit iffy on consumer drives that refurb from full failure though.
nvme drives can have failure of flash memory but those aren't getting repackaged as refurbs unless they reball with fresh memory chips, which if that's the case are going to be same as new. otherwise the refurbs are probably something stupid like controller firmware getting corrupted, which can either be forced reflashed or reballed and replaced if the chip itself is actually bad. i wouldn't think twice about refurb'd solid state.
