870 is a better 860 evo, so 870

if you can, i'd get the 970 evo plus for the same price

You can buy the excellent Crucial MX500 1 TB SATA SSD for $90 on sale at Amazon. Why take a chance on a refurbished product, which is arguably not better?

I have a Crucial MX500 drive for 5 years running on one of my PCs and I never had an issue. And yes, it has DRAM - the BX models do not.

The Crucial MX500 is not even a contender to the Samsung 860 and 870. A used SSD can be a great buy, because with programs like CrystalDiskInfo and Samsung Magician, any problem is out in the open. You know exactly how many hours power on and how many TB written and any bad block. No chance to be taken. You can return for exchange or refund if you don't like the SSD in the warranty period.

Edit to add. Consider all "refurbished" SSD's as used items. No exception.

The MX 500 is an excellent drive. I'm not sure what you are talking about.

There's no reason to buy a refurbished drive if one can help it.

It you want to take a chance, and deal with a more limited warranty, that's on you. For most people, it makes no sense.

The "CPU" (controller) of the MX500 is Single-core, 4-ch, 8-CE/ch
The Samsung 860 and 870 EVO are Tri-core, 8-ch, 8-CE/ch

One core vs three cores. 4 channels vs 8 channels.

With that said, one core controller will do the same job, only takes longer time than a three-core controller. In real word applications, the user probably won't notice any difference. So there's that.

I don't buy many things used, but I do buy used Samsung SSD Not any SSD mind you. I demand the seller to show the SMART screen shot. If I like what I read, I'll buy it or keep it.

Geeksquad took the return and put it back on the shelf with a 'refurb' sticker on it.
