Looks like an open box item and seems to be 200$ off from the original price. I know we have an apple event this march so probably gets some new Mac mini upgrades version.

Decent deal if you can deal with 8gb of ram. Though the refreshed versions is rumored to come out in March. Might be able to get this one new at this price
Friendly advice. Don't buy anything today with only 8gb of ram unless you only use 1 app at a time. You may think you are so slick and so smart but as later versions of MacOS come out that requires more resources, you will be waiting.. waiting.. waiting.. Say no to 8gb of ram
How long will I be waiting? What will I be waiting for?

I've heard this said with windows based computers and I can't tell the difference between 4gb and 16gb, every time I've purchased a new pc and it comes with 4/8gb I upgrade to 16 or 24gb I'm hard pressed to see a difference.

Disagree. If you're a power user you need 16gb for sure. Compiling things, doing video production, etc. If you have browser with 30 tabs, mail, slack, discord, zoom all going at once and that's kinda what you do (i.e. 80% of users) ; 8gb will be fine and this little thing 1.5 years later is still by far the best bang for the buck you can get because the m1 chips are just a generation above everyone else.
I have a 16gb version I got renewed from apple. I also wouldn't buy used at this price if you can get at costco for $20 more. but 99% of people that ask themselves "do i really need more ram?" the answer is no.

Really? 4 vs 16 is like night and day for me. I tend to have more tabs and applications open, so that may be the case.

the other thing is that the ssd itself is so fast that even when its swapping this computer will be faster than what most people are using. i'd expect the m1 i to be very usable for basic non-power user stuff for at least another 3-5 years and doubt that the 8gb threshold will become the bottleneck. much more likely the ssd dies by then, unfortunately.

the difference is only "do i have enough ram". if you have "enough" and you add more, you won't find any difference. if you don't have enough, you will either crash, or more often, your hard drive will be used as virtual memory (called "swapping") and hard drives are super slow (especially spinny ones); so you feel major slowdowns when its swapping.
the more stuff you keep open, and more importantly, the more memory-intensive computing you do; the more ram you need. for basic usage that is typical for most people (not the type of people that spend their valuable time posting on internet forums); 4gb is enough for the OS and a couple tabs. but barely

Same. I'm that guy with two browsers open, 30 tabs including youtube, plus siriusxm, itunes and iphoto. Going from 4GB to 16GB was a revelation. I'm waiting to see the new minis but will likely get an intel chip mini because these m1 integrated chipsets are supposedly not recommended to be user upgradeable.
