The new Mac Mini is expected to have the M1 Pro and M1 Max chips with options for expanded RAM--The M1 Pro chip supports up to 32GB RAM and the M1 Max supports up to 64GB.

The new Mac mini may be launched at an event in the spring possibly at Apple's spring event, rumored to be next Tuesday, 3/8/22.

Amazon is offering a 7% discount on landing page and an extra $80 off during checkout

Though its possible apple will release new mac mini next week, there is a decent discount on (current) latest generation of mac mini. Upgrade is not confirmed, so they may not be one.
If needed, you could ultimately return purchased unit and buy new one.

These M1s are awesome. Replaced my $1500+ desktop and work fine for hobbyist level photo and video editing. Super, super fast, even with 8gb. The new max and pro models will likely start well over $1k and go up significantly from there.

I normally agree. The performance increase of the Apple design might be worth it. I do wish that the lowest end model came with 16 GB Standard. It would be nice of the SSD was upgradable.

This or 16gb refurb from Apple.com for $759 ($190 more)? I'm looking for a computer for photo archiving, some light editing and retouching, and light video editing and archiving. Lots of old photos and slides, 8mm video and super 8 movies. I have an external drive already. My existing computer is old and slow.
