This is one case where I think the director's cut is the inferior version, though it could be that the original was the first version I watched (and I also wasn't a fan of the music changes in the director's cut). I thought the additional scenes were not very well done, and that the original version leaving things a little more unexplained/open made the movie better.

Sadly, most 4k movies are darker. I haven't done enough research to understand why, but I think it's because things can't really *pop* if everything is popping, so to get enough contrast in brightness they need to darken everything else a little bit. The 4k, higher bit rate, and HDR is supposed to increase shadow detail though, so even if darker you're still supposed to be able to see more fine detail.

I checked some comparison shots and for some reason the bluray / 1080p release looks better. The 4k version does seem a lot darker and has some color wash out.
