Most of them have a raised lip around them. I just lay them on the floor lip side up and hose them off to clean them. I've had two of them for around 10 years now.
If they last for years bolted to truck wheel wells, your dog won't have much luck ruining them.

But yes, I agree, stuff like this is just weird trash. Give it a couple months and you'll be seeing these in BarkBox or whatever as filler items, and then end up in the landfill.

We use a boot tray under our water bowl and food. Waterproof, has a lip on it and cheap!
