Looked into this since my freezer doesn't have an ice maker and since it is not insulated and I was hoping to use one of these stand alone ice makers as a solution. The issue with these is that these ice makers are not well insulated and have no compressor to keep your ice from melting. Typically the ice in these units will start to melt in about 8-12hrs. Of course there are ice makers that also store ice but they are much bigger and much more expensive.

These are good if you need a good amount of ice quickly for parties/events but not for continual ice making. Also you need to worry about cleaning and disinfecting if you use these types of ice makers routinely.

Finally, obviously you are dedicating some of your kitchen counter space to this when used.

Sad I'm willing to pay $200 for an ice maker, but it is what it is and it is sonic ice is awesome. Looking for real world reviews as well.

I bought one of these around a year ago. It worked well at first and the ice was great but we ended up returning our unit because it starting to make some pretty awful sounds after about 3 weeks. In all the reviews I read it was a sign that the machine was likely going to die so I returned it but didn't get a replacement. It sounds like if you get a good one it would be a great budget option for nugget ice. I dont see the restriction of 90 return window on the listing so you probably have a year to test it and return it if the machine starts to die / play the song of death.

Along these lines, I looked at this online the other day when I got their coupon book and I do not see Costco stating they are adding a warranty bump to 2-yrs. I suppose if it doesn't happen and you didn't use your Costco Visa (which I believe also extends it an additional 2-yrs), you may have to return instead. I also hate to be that guy, but would never consider buying this elsewhere because of it!
I don't think small appliances are excluded from their general satisfaction return policy (which for excluded things would limit returns 90-days). Correct me if I am wrong and I can edit.

I've tried a number of ice machines and settled on a Follett Symphony dispenser (its dick is currently in the dirt, unfortunately). In my opinion, when you mess around with trying to keep nugget ice from melting, it loses its chewiness and gets too hard. Anyways, my point is, I like it better when the machine doesn't try to combat the melting.

So something to note is that "this ice FLOATS" in drinks... I guess this ice does not sink.

Costco also has another Fridgidaire ice maker for $99:

It makes "bullet" ice though, not the "nugget" ice.

Have one of these not same company and works well for the $49 I paid. Use it at in-laws and parties and creates ice quickly and can store in big freezer. Also use it in summer as family loves ice drinks lol.

I have the GE Opal 2.0 $600 unit and I use it all day every day. Since this is Costco, give it a shot, and if it sucks, return! NUGGET ICE FOREVER
