This is not a gaming laptop? I thought MSI made only gaming laptops?

Yes they do, but they took a shot at ultrabooks with this lineup and pretty much succeeded.

Nice!

MSI lets this chip have lots of power.

Either one, Costco or this, will work in this Intel ref design to give you nearly top of the heap single core responsiveness. Until Alder Lake rolls around to dethrone everyone

Costco version offers better value for money(with 1 caveat) as for extra $100 you get extra 16GB RAM, 1TB Storage and extra 1 yr costco warranty(+2yrs if you use costco card). Caveat being Costco model has sub par display, not sure about amazon version, but it says 100%sRGB.
As for the review: I bought it from Costco during BF. RAM is more than enough but i7-1195G7 with only 4 cores creates a bottleneck.
For testing: I opened many youtube tabs and reddit tabs which maxxed out the 32gig memory.
Another msi system with 8 core i7 and 16GB RAM was able to handle the same load better. Just my 2 cents.

Build quality is great, all metal. Great for normal user. Value for money at $800-900.

I can open Many tabs on a 11th gen i3-chromebook with8GB memory. How many tabs are saying caused a problem?

The Costco display should be the same I would think.

Have Killer wifi drivers become better? It used to be you could uninstall their drivers and just put stock intel wifi drivers in - still?

Chromebook vs Windows 10 machine. Apples to oranges.
25-30 tabs maxxed out the memory. System was still running but throttled.

Display is too dim.

Killer suite can be uninstalled, but in some cases it causes the wifi to disappear from DM. Either download wifi drivers and save them before uninstalling or as people have suggested on other sites: to connect LAN and than run Windows update to fix it.

I say the screen is accurate, sufficiently bright and has very good contrast.

Are you sure RAM was maxed out with 25-30 tabs? I have 32GB on my custom built Ryzen 5600x, and usually have close to 100 tabs open while gaming, and I've never seen higher than 12gb RAM utilization. 16GB is the current sweet spot for Windows machines, unless you're doing professional work like editing, etc. You may have a lot of bloatware running. I don't know how MSI PCs are about preinstalled bloatware. If they're Dragon Center software is anything to go by, it's probably taking up a lot of resources. Afterburner is MSI's only software that isn't a complete trainwreck resource hog. With a clean Windows install, I can pretty much guarantee you'll have to try a lot harder than that to reach 32GB DRAM utilization.

Gosh I want to love this laptop but I can't go back to "sufficiently bright." If they had display that was 400+ nits I'd be much more interested in it. I've been spoiled by bright displays and feel 300 is too dim for anything outside of indoor use. Still provides benefit indoors too!

It has 2 thunderbolt ports? The 2.0 is just for a mouse or keyboard. You can use a USB a to C adapter if you really don't want to use a dock or travel adapter.

Do this or Costco's version, supports eGPU/Enclosure via TB4? GPUs are slowly coming down in price (still expensive) and availability is getting better (stocks remain available for hours) and the idea of being to upgrade GPUs later on s appealing to me
