I got my dividend the other day, so I had been eyeing this outlet deal until you mentioned this. I'll wait for the 18th. Thank you!

I guess we're at the time of year where the winter stuff goes on sale. I wanted to get a lightweight down jacket to replace my Columbia Outlet purchase 7 years ago. Was thinking of stepping up to the Patagonia Nano puff or the much cheaper REI Stratocloud.

I was hoping for a sale on Patagonia but that doesn't seem likely, right?

Patagonia winter sale just on, ending soon I believe. I have a nano puff and love it. Worth the $$$. Also the mission/ethics/recycled materials they use is something to feel good about IMO.

I really liked the Silent Down hoodie as well, but I wasn't sure if it could be used the same way as the Nanopuff, or not.

I already have a thicker, North Face jacket for when it snows hard but for spring and fall, I didn't know if the Nanopuff or Silent Down hoodie would be OK. I'm sure they'd both be OK but I like the look of the SD but worry it might be too much for a 40 degree day.

The Nano puff is thinner and synthetic, so better for wet and humid conditions, but less warm. The down is better for dry inactive uses. Nano is better as a milder weather piece/wet weather/ mid layer.

I didn't know the Nanopuff was synthetic; I assumed it and the Silent Down were both down but the SD was just thicker and warmer and both suffered from the danger of getting wet.

I live in Chicago and it can snow plenty but not get "that cold" during the process. It can be in the 30s and snowing and my North Face would still be overkill and I'd get hot. That's why I was looking for something a bit lighter but still enough to keep warm.

So it sounds like the Nanopuff would cover me for when it snows in the 30s or rains in the 40s and I wouldn't need to worry about it clumping, right?

I'll check out Patagonia's site for pricing and what other offerings they have in the lightweight, synthetic section.

Have two items in my cart ending in .73 and the coupon doesn't apply. REI often disappoints.

The nano would work well in terms of not clumping in the wet- but personally wouldn't be warm enough for me in low 30s. Probably like 36-50 degrees optimally. Probably good to freezing with a fleece under it.
