FYI. I have been using Zenni for about 5 years. No problems whatsoever and shipping is very fast in my experience.

Good deal and I'm considering pickup up a pair of regular glasses and some sunglasses with this deal.

In this industry, Warby uses grade B materials. Zenni uses grade C. Someone like Essilor, Zeiss, and Hoya will be the top of the line with lenses.
Where to get those…?

Yea, mine did this but that was because I washed them with soapy water. I would say make sure they are super dry if you decide to rinse them with water.
When your done washing dip them in rubbing alcohol or something similar. It will evaporate in seconds and prevent any rust. You should be able to pick up gallon or so off Amazon for a few dollars. Then use a jar or something similar to dip and reuse.

Zenni also gives 10% off for military/veterans but you can't get it with any other promotions.

Yeah, $183 AFTER insurance at the eye place versus $45 on zenni using the code, free shipping, and free engraving. And I got the blue light filter.

Is this a decent deal for Zenni?
Their 20% deals are better but this isn't bad for certain price points. Ex: just did $55 glasses so $10 off $55 is about 20%. Wouldn't make sense to buy two pairs for $15 off $110.

I buy anytime they release a promo code because my kid goes through glasses like a beaver through trees.

Thanks for the info! In your example, $55 is the price associated with just the frame, yes?

Anyone know of an affordable chain optician to get an eye exam? I need to update my prescription.
https://www.eyeque.com

You can do it with Zenni's founders other company - the home eye prescription tool.

In Los Angeles, OK Optical, Gardena does prescriptions only $29.

I've been ordering from Zenni for ~11 years. Amazing prices!
I recommend them.

Minor issue. The last couple of glasses seemed to get green rust (?) inside the nose pads.
Has anyone else noticed this?
Any metal with contact with water, especially tap water that has minerals, chlorine, etc, trapped under the nose pads for an extended period of time will.... Corrode!

Use distilled water rinse, then dry asap using a hair dryer if necessary. The longer water contacts most metals, the more corrosion occurs.

Make sure you guys get your lens prescriptions checked locally by an optometrist's office after buying lenses online. They are prone to error, unfortunately.
https://m.glassesusa.com/scan

You can scan eyeglass prescriptions at home free with a laptop and smartphone. Then compare with your written prescription.

4 out of 5 for accuracy in measuring the power, axis. 5 put of 5 for the PD. ... When measuring just one time. Repeat a few times and you'll be spot on with the power and pd, axis will still likely be off a few degrees.

1. Make sure you measure the midway point with a ruler! And use that when tilting the glasses.

2. Use a cell phone holder when scanning the glasses so you can use both hands to tilt the glasses up and down while minimizing rotation.

3. Scan at least 3 times. Usually the measurement that's an outlayer is obvious.

4. Make sure the room is brightly lit so the PD measurement is accurate.

Where to get those…?
Private optometries usually with high end brand name glasses like dior on display. But you'll have to ask (Nikon Eyes is rebranded Essilor in America sadly).

Or the simple way - ask if the shop sells Freeform lenses!

(Regular prescriptions not very accurate 0.25 diopter steps, so even looking left or right without turning your head will result in blurred vision. Think off-the-rack suit.

Freeform lenses are custom made to 0.01 diopter steps, so super accurate and sharp vision edge to edge. Think tailored suit.

For photographers, normal lenses = spherical, Freeform lenses = aspherical.)

Whether you care for a Freeform lens or not at $250+ depends on how picky you are about visual sharpness off-center. Some don't notice or care, some tilt their heads just a few degrees and notice every defect in normal lenses.

(One way to check. Look at a TV or calendar about 6 feet away. Something with text large and fine. Notice how sharp the text is. Now, while looking at the same text, turn your head slightly towards the right. Did you notice the text sharpness changing? Is that annoying to you?)

...

The lens material itself is pretty standardized.
CR39 at 1.50 to polycarbonate to Tivex to even higher index lenses.
Few companies are making custom lens plastics since the Freeform + anti-reflective coating alone is going to produce a far more noticeable gain in lens performance.

..

Keep in mind the ABBE value.
How much things go to crap when you look left or right through a lens without turning your head.
CR39 has the best ABBE value, and all higher index lenses are worse.

If your prescription is mild (eg +3.5 to -3.5), cr39 is thin and light + thin enough while giving you superb off-axis visual clarity...through a normal, non-Freeform lens. Using a very high index, lens material with such diopters in a non-freeform, regular lens will simply turn your off-center vision crappier.

At higher diopters, like a -8.00, you really want a Freeform, high-index lens to give you both great off-axis vision and light + thin weight.

Of course, freeform lenses at any diopter will perform better no matter what because of the 0.001 diopter accuracy.

..

For zenni, go with the lower index lens materials that give you a lens that's thin and light enough for you to live with but have better abbe values. Imo.
