It's also double the cost.

This is better than any wifi6 router in its price range. BCM4906 4x4 AC W2 with 160mhz support on 5G.

2x2 AX routers at this price point are worse

I paid a bit more last year+ but I had giftcards to use and I needed one right away.

I have this router and love it.

The RGB may seem dumb but in all honesty I find it quite handy. I have it to show bandwidth. With it setup in the living room I can see how many people are watching stuff/downloading. Color changes from Green to Yellow to Red on what is going on. I am stuck with 50/mbps(or pay 6x the price for 100+mbps) so it is quite handy and the QoS on it keeps everything good.

Great at port forwarding, no problems with a closed NAT in any games. As someone with a low amount of bandwidth and kids that game/youtube and I like my 4K shows it does a great job with the connection I have.

Buying your own is leaps ahead of an ISP provided router.

Add in the fact that you can use third party firmware on these to make them even better and you'll wonder why you were ever dealing with Spectrum's crap.

Just make sure you still have a modem, as it's possible you have a modem/router combo unit.

Any way to wall mount it? I need one to fit inside a wall box that's only about 2-3" deep.

I am an ASUS guy so was not putting this down. My point was that the Costco router is on sale at $219 and is AX- WiFi 6 enables while this is AC max. I have ASUS routers/mesh in my house

I've been looking for another ASUS router so I can use the Ai Mesh with my current AC68R. Pretty tempted on this. Anyone have one currently?

This or a RT-AC1900P for $99?

https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-WiFi-...01K8TTH4W/

Looking for outdoor range to mesh with my existing 1900P so that I can get signal into an auxiliary building with concrete block walls (an RF nightmare). Routers would be 95-100 feet apart with no obstructions other than each are behind a window.

Edit: it is worth noting that I've already tried range extenders and powerline adapters. Both failed miserably.

This.

I have the RT-AC86U for well over 2 years and it's running great with Merlin. If you insist on an AC, then this is a great deal, otherwise spend the extra money for AX.

I have/had both the 68 series and the 86 series. This 86 series is the direct successor but blows away in both CPU speed and range so I would pay the extra 20 bucks

Sorry, which one would you pick again? This meaning the 2900, or this meaning my linked 1900P?

Correct.

At this point I would not buy the AC1900.

So it begs the question, which would give me better range and/or throughput, this GT-AC2900, or the RT-AX58U? I ask, because I have already tried the AX58U because it was the only local Asus router I could find. I wanted to see if it had enough oomph to push out there. Inside the auxiliary building with the 1900P, I can only get about 30Mbps down, and about 10Mpbs up, with a moderate amount of jitter and packet loss. The AX58U was the supplying router, and it's hardwired with 100Mbps up and down. They were linked using the Asus AiMesh mode.

In short, is this AC2900 a significant downgrade from the AX58U in the range department?
