I should have mentioned it in the OP, but this is available for shipping so you don't need to live near a micro center to get the deal like some of their sales.
I will never understand this website/community. You post a refurb legion 7 with a 3070 with a 2 year warranty for $1550. You get down voted to oblivion. But put a G17 with a 3070 for $1900 and everyone cheers.

Kudos to the poster
too much at $1900 with only 3070 and AMD released 6000 series laptops CPUs few weeks ago and Intel i7 12th gen laptops have 14 cores now.

This has a 17" QHD screen (not everyone prefers 16:10, 16:9 is better for gaming), faster CPU than the Legion 5 pro, 32GB RAM, better battery life, way better speakers, better trackpad, per-key RGB, Etc. It's a more premium system overall.

Lenovo vantage also sucks, it has no manual fan curve, and Armory Crate has wattage sliders that you can use to get the best balance of power/noise because of dynamic boost.

You're really giving up quite a bit by getting a Lenovo, but they are a good bang for the buck if you are ok with making some concessions.
But the Legion 7 deal posted not long ago with a Ryzen 9, 3080 max wattage, 32GB Ram and 1TB SSD was still better overall, for about 150 more after cashback and coupon deals, correct? I'm asking because I just passed up this exact Asus for a Lenovo

Yeah but this for $1900 is rough.. especially with shipping, you get no mux switch, inferior build quality, worse RGB, inferior display, inferior performance(wattage), worse cooling, ports, and design(do get better speakers though lol) vs superior legion 7 3070 $1550-1650 It's just a bit of a bruh, asus makes inferior gaming laptops, just look at strix and scar series and their TUF series. their zepherys series is good though
I disagree with pretty much everything you're saying. This ASUS is premium desktop replacement. That's not to say there is anything wrong with the legion. If the legion had comparable specs at that price, I too would be tempted to get that instead.

MSI and DELL make inferior gaming laptops for the reasons you state , in my opinion, ASUS does not fall into that category.

If you can afford that price tag I would not regret your decision at all.

Buy an Alienware or a Lenovo ($1600) and a 32GB RAM ($120) kit and save some money, get some additional performance and a MUX chip to top it off. Asus QC also leaves a lot to be desired.

I personally own a 5800H version with RTX3080 and 16GB RAM for $2000 last year. It just came back from RMA with a new mainboard, but one of the wifi card leads unattached. I had to open it up (Warranty is almost up) and reconnect the lead to fix the bluetooth audio issues. Performance-wise, my 3080 (130W) version still trails behind the 3070 (140W versions) in other OEMs. And no MUX chip in a 300Hz laptop!. I really wish I had waited and bought a Legion or a x15.

I'm not so sure now James, I just received my Lenovo L7 and I'm a bit confused

- Screen doesn't seem as bright even though L7 is spec'd at 500nit vs 300nit
- Screen on Asus seemed much brighter, sharper and more ' colorful '
- Legion 7 gets MUCH hotter than G17, could be due to 3080/3070 differences
- Battery life seemed much better on the G17
- Many keep mentioning ' liquid metal ' on the G17 being superior as far as temps go

Now I need to figure out if I'm going to be sending this Lenovo back lol

Is it just me or are gaming laptops just a mine field of being great at some things and terrible at a lot of other ways? How can laptop manufacturers not get this figured out by now? lol

they charge 2600+ for these laptops you are wondering about, wont find a perfect laptop on slickdeals as these are usually laptops that dont sell as well.

I bought one of these directly from Asus when they first came out (march/april last year) in the first month I had to RMA it for a bad mainboard. When it came back, half of the lower LED bar did not light up, and you could hear something rattling around inside the laptop. Took about 5 weeks to get it back, and less than a month later, the rgb on the keyboard stopped working. A week later, i was using it an heard a pop and the laptop was dead again.

When I called support, I told them about the rattling inside the chassis, the pop and burning smell, and defective LEDs, they decided to escalate my ticket to just replace the laptop entirely. Initially since they didnt have that model in stock they wanted to offer me a replacement model, but all of the models they offered as replacements were much lower spec... like rtx2060 15" last gen intel models as the highest replacement offering which was insulting. I suggested that if they wanted to offer a replacement then it should have the same or better specs than I originally paid for. They had some 3080 models in stock at the time, and I was hoping they'd send me one of those instead, but ultimately they decided to refund me (which took another 8 weeks!).

I've owned Asus laptops. motherboards, and wifi routers almost exclusively in the last 15 years, and I've had to do some RMAs with them but experience sort of soured me to them. I bought a Legion 5 (non pro) with similar specs that has been running flawlessly since I purchased it like 5 months ago I even have it overclocked mining crypto (something I didn't do on the Asus which technically has a better cooling package) and its been extremely stable.

If I had to guess what's going on, it'd be that they don't apply the liquid metal to the Asus consistently and it leaks as it heats up and causes shorts on the mainboard. I didn't inspect it myself so this is pure speculation.

This is why i dont buy Asus anymore, I bought many Asus in the past and it has been nothing but regrets. I kept buying it because the brand was great decade ago but not anymore.
