I created a bootable USB using Microsoft's Windows 11 create installation media: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/s.../windows11

Look up tutorials online. There are lot of things going on, so don't do it unless you know how.

However it was painful to do a clean install. If it was easy then I would be more inclined to return for a replacement to check out if the thunderbolt port is misaligned. Even when it was so painful I would still do it to get rid of all bloatware.

Here are issues I ran into:

The touchpad drivers are not in the Windows 11 installation media. So the touchpad won't work until Windows installs and completes all updates. It does find the correct drivers eventually on its own. Just took a few updates and reboots. I had an external mouse handy which I used during install.
The bigger problem is that the hard disk drivers are not on the Windows 11 installation media either. So you won't see your hard disk at all. You need to download the drivers from Intel and extract them on the install USB. https://www.intel.com/content/www...forms.html I used the VMD zip file. I also nuked all partitions since I didn't want anything to remain on it.

After all updates it will install Intel Thunderbolt and some other Intel drivers, and HP Bang & Olufsen for audio. But that is it. I am not sure if I actually need the Bang & Olufsen control center. I was most pissed at all HP and McAfee bloatware.

However, Windows 11 comes with its own set of bloatware. It installs Microsoft Maps and other things. Why would I need a map app on my computer?

Well first off you need to decide which screen size you want. Bigger is generally better for using, but worse for carrying. If you plan to using it mostly at home, 15.6 is a good compromise. If you travel a lot or take it back and forth to work or school, it will get a little heavy.

The 5700U has more cores and better GPU, so if you do heavy work using all cores, or want to do light gaming, it will be better than the i5 in the cheaper model.

Edit: Also note that the cheaper one is an Envy model, which is considered higher end than the Pavillion model. There may be some minor quality differences in the build/body, etc,

According to HP specs:
https://support.hp.com/rs-en/document/c08049129

The Envy 13.3" has a brighter 400 nits screen vs 250 nits screen on the Pavilion 15.6". So the Envy should be easier to see outdoors.

Seems to good to be true if this really has a 400 nit screen at this price. I'll have to check out my local Costco and take a look.
Seems to be 400 nits. I went to costco and the screen seems very nice for the price.

I would like to know this also. Missed out on the Dell and been waiting for it to go on sale again. My friend bought the Dell and loves it.
This one is brighter. The dell has a better resolution, altho at 13.3 inches im not sure how much the increased resolution matters.

This one is also touch. Other than that doesnt seem like much of a difference to me.

Build quality might also be better on this one, as stated, since its the envy line of HP which is one of their higher end lines.

The Envy 13.3" is made of aluminum chassis felt very sturdy and light. The screen is near the top quality. Great budget laptop for business and travel.

via the usb c port.

either use a usb c to displayport cable, or if your monitor supports usb c input, a usb c to usb c cable.
if you want more monitors then you'll need to connect to a thunderbolt dock.
and if you really want to max your monitors an egpu via the thunderbolt port.

The 15" version is 8GB RAM. That's too low. 13.3" has option for 16GB

Dell's screen is 16:10 vs. the HP screen is 16:9. Personally, I prefer 16:10. But 16:9 looks better when you watch video in full screen mode.

Would I be able to connect to a 38 inch monitor at 3840x1600 resolution? Not for gaming and such but I am thinking of getting it for my kid and set up a large monitor.
