About 2 years ago we put in a Kenwood deck into our Subaru Forester 2012 and we installed a backup camera. We did not install any amps (for wife and she just wanted Android Auto and backup camera). The sound was so much better then stock.

I put an aftermarket radio in my Mazda6 2018 but with the new cars you can not upgrade the deck.

I'm looking to do a similar swap in my 2005 Hyundai Tucson. The factory deck came with the ability to play cassette tapes/CD/radio so a nice chunky screen w/ the ability to install a backup cam, use AA, and ideally keep the ability to play CDs seems like it'd be a good fit. I'm currently using an adapter in my car's 12v aux port to steam BT locally as a fixed low-power FM station, and while that works and provides a USB charging port, it's not a perfect solution.

The power output and speaker quality is currently decent, but the OEM receiver for FM is a bit lacking (either that or the small external antenna is to blame). I would probably pass on this exact model due to really wanting a tactile power/volume button, however, the comments here are a treasure trove of information.

I would not buy this. I bought an ATOTO android double din a few years back and after about a year it had no support and you couldn't access the google playstore anymore. Sound quality was crap too.

I have another chinese android head unit. It's from 2016 but still works well. The versatility of having a rooted android HU in your vehicle is awesome.

Things like the backup camera and steering wheel controls can probably be connected with a canbus adapter to an android unit. Not sure about climate control or seat warmer though. But if Jeep offers a head unit that has android auto/carplay, it may be easer to just buy a used one that was taken off of a wrecked car and swap it out.

I was debating between an Android head unit or a more expensive "name brand". I went with Alpine to avoid dealing with buggy software and was surprised at how laggy and buggy Alpine wound up being (it would freeze while I was driving! Which required a reboot to operate) seemed like beta software, even with latest update. Swapped it for a Pioneer and have had similar issues, like rear view camera doesn't always turn on, takes time to boot and sometimes never connects with my phone. But not nearly as bad as the Alpine. Since I've never used an android unit I don't know how they compare, I'm inclined to think similarly or worse. I suppose that's the price you pay for having a "smart" head unit.

As a few others have said, a knock off of what? I'm 99% sure there are not any "major" car audio manufacturers that make a full Android head unit. There are plenty that have Android Auto built in, but that is completely different than a full Android stereo. This is like having a generic stereo behind the scenes with a full Android tablet doing nearly everything any other Android tablet can do PLUS tune to radio stations and whatnot.

I've owned the ATOTO S8 Ultra for the last couple of years. I have no real complaints about the stereo just using it as a stereo. The only complaint I'd say is that they have not released any updates for the stereo. For a generic stereo, that's not a big deal, but if you're using a lot of Android apps, getting some of the generic Android updates would help keep some of those apps running better as well as give the stereo more options. Again, this is for my S8 Ultra, but I believe I've seen people complain about this for all of their models.

Hello... When you said .many can interface with the CANBUS my ears stood up. My old Toyota convertible with JBL stereo uses the CANBUS to control the amp, and steering wheel buttons are also on the bus.
Where can I learn about whether one of these receivers can work with my Toy.

Has anyone tried to install this unit on a motorcycle? I have a amp to help the sound..... but Im just wondering if the screen is bright enough? How is the user interface, is it simple to navigate?
