If you drive fast enough you can get to the next gas station before they raise the price again and we all know what happens when you hit 88 mph.

I drive a loud hot rod sometimes. I use my R7 radar detector so I know when to keep it quiet as I've been pulled over more for exhaust than speed.

I would get the R7. I have an R3 but switched to an R7 in my daily driver. I put the R3 in my wife's car. After a few times of driving hers I upgraded it to the R7 because once you have the arrows and auto lock outs you don't want to mess with the R3 anymore. My R3 has been in a draw for about a year now.

This is an excellent detector, I have one myself (replaced my ancient v1g1) but fyi the R4 and R8 are already in the hands of early reviewers and are expected to be released in april. Initial reports are they are a significant step up over the already amazing R3 and R7

Alot of times we don't intentionally speed but I live in the Denver metro area where the roads are hilly and I accidentally go over the limit. Radars have saved me on multiple occasions.

I have had both. Not sure there was any difference in range. The R7 basically has more features. The auto lockouts finally came out for the R7, and I love this feature personally. Arrows I can live with or without. Like them, but not sure I would pay more for them. Yes, if they were the same price the R7 is the way to go, but if just about sensitivity I am not sure I see much of a difference.

Still the best detector IMHO. I have these in 3 of my cars and they've been superb. This is a great price for a great detector.

The R4 has been released some time ago and is for sale at Amazon and other retailers. Tons of reviews on it. The R8 hasn't been released yet but is scheduled to in April 2022 for $699.

Thanks, didn't realize the R4 was out. I'm on the fence for upgrading R3 to R8 or V1G2+JBV1. Neither which are available until April. Hopefully.

I didn't know about the V1G2+JBV1 so thank you. I will definitely be checking it out. I bought the R3 today at this very good price so I can take my time to look into the R8 and now the V1G2+JBV1. I'm thinking on BF I'll hopefully get a deal on one of these newer models. Then, I'll put the R3 in a less used vehicle.

Thanks, rep given. I got mine in 2019 and quickly looked at how to update it then and it didn't look simple. Is there an easy way to just simply update firmware now?
