Would much prefer it if this would support both DDR4 and DDR5 like some motherboards are, for future upgrades........
Next gen of AMD CPUs will have new socket, so, a AM4 socket board will probably carry very limited upgradability anyways.

This motherboard predates DDR5 memory.

Bought it from Newegg for 220+tax back in Aug 2020, first paired with a 3700x then a 5900x. Running all core 4.7G with no problem whatsoever. Great AM4 board. If you need one, go no further.

I have a b450 with a 1600x. I purchased a 5800x with plans to use it in my b450 however it looks like I'm limited to gen3.

If I'm now buying a new motherboard. Do I stick with last Gen amd or buy into the the new Intel socket infrastructure?

... this board came out well before DD5 was released. It's not backwards compatible, even though it fits the same slot.
And if you've noticed the price of motherboards with DD5, it's because they have extra components that were removed from the RAM itself.

If your next rebuild will be in another 4 or 5 years (1600x was almost 5 years old), it really doesn't matter -- 5800x + this board will probably last that long, and cost less than switching to alder lake, which will also become irrelevant by then.

Fantastic motherboard, hardware is top tier,BIOS updates frequently from MSI and the new RGB software is passable. If you're in the market for an AM4 motherboard this is the one.

depends on what type of work you are doing. if writing to and reading ssd frequently, then you could see real world gains. if for running gpu at gen 4, then the answer had been no as of about a year ago when I made the decision to not opt for a new mobo when I got an rtx 30 series
