This motherboard predates DDR5 memory.
Next gen of AMD CPUs will have new socket, so, a AM4 socket board will probably carry very limited upgradability anyways.
Bought it from Newegg for 220+tax back in Aug 2020, first paired with a 3700x then a 5900x. Running all core 4.7G with no problem whatsoever. Great AM4 board. If you need one, go no further.

If I remember correctly, the previous generation Tomahawk board was a mess and gave MSI's rep a big hit. In response they way over built the next gen board (this one) to recover the rep of what had been a respected board.

I have the board paired with 3600x and just clicking the "boost" buttons in the bios provides an effortless and rock solid OC at 4.3hz.

Definitely recommend
It wasn't the Tomahawk. There wasn't originally an x570 Tomahawk. The last Tomahawk before this was the b450. It was the Gaming Edge Wifi, and also the Gaming Pro Carbon, and the Gaming Plus that had horrendous thermals and got panned my most of the review sites. They still advertise this as their "return to honor" in some of their advertising for this board.

Of course, the thermals problem was discovered right after I bought a Gaming Edge Wifi. I used it for a while before switching to an Asus TUF Gaming Plus, then Pro. I was considering getting the Tomahawk, but the prices jumped too high.

Finally back to original MSRP. If I recall, Gamers Nexus and Hardware Unboxed lauded it as the best quality X570 for the price, resulting in it quickly selling out everywhere for the original $200-ish price and spiking up to $270 and being regularly OoS. Thanks OP.

Hmmm, doing a new build now with a 5900X and 64GB G Skill TridenZ RGB 3600. I had gotten a Gigabyte X570 AORUS Elite WiFi, but can't get it to update the BIOS or power on for more than a second before shutting down. Was considering RMA'ing the Gigabyte board and switching to an Asus TUF x570, or this MSI Tomahawk.

Any suggestions on this? The Gigabyte is top rated for x570 boards too, with lots of nice features. Just don't know if I want to risk a replacement and try again, or give up and switch to one of the ones I mentioned.

Thoughts?

Forgive my ignorance, but I'm looking to build and I'm pretty sure this is a good deal for what I'm looking to do, (From what I'm reading) only I'm not sure what my limitations would be to put in it, namely a graphics card and processor. I'm not looking for the latest and greatest so i can play everything on ultra settings for the next 7 years. Just something on a budget where I'll be able to play new games without issue.

You guys got any good advice or it a website where I can mix and match components for this MOBO? Maybe just a good recommendation for cpu/gpu combo. Thanks everyone
Hey bud I have this board and it is fantastic.,
To help you out pair this bad boy with 5600x or 5800x 5600x is 220-250 5800x is 350 personally 5600x is more then enough for gaming just look at few YT videos.
Ram pick up some 3600 speed 16cl ram I recommend trident zneo 16-19-19-39 ram is 115 for two 8g sticks. pick up a rtx3070 or 6700xt for video card or better. A good cpu cooler, and Bammmmmmmmmm your set for years,

With X570s chipset being fanless, that may be the way to go. Several more ryzen chips in the lineup come early April

Has anyone who has gotten there's from this deal seen if they shipped with newer firmware (to support the 5000's) or did you still have to update first ?

If you're going to return it, go with either the tuf or this board here. I would be interested to know where the aorus is top rated, as I thought it was lowly rated.
The TUF however, is a nice board, without a ton of extra features you prob won't use anyway.

If you're having issues with the BIOS, make sure you're using the elite wifi REV (x)? bios, and make sure to match the bios to what it states exactly on the box.

It seems I won't have to return it after all. Had taken it to a local tech shop to finish the case wiring (it's been a minute since I built my last system and was lost on all the case and fan wiring, mostly because of all the RGB lighting, too many controllers, lol), but they couldn't get the BIOS to update to power it up and get any further. After 2 weeks, I got it back (no charge at least) and figured I'd give it a shot before the return window closed. And whaddya know, I got it to update and power up. I think the issue is they weren't pushing and holding the BIOS Q-Flash button long enough to get it to start. They were probably just pushing it, maybe holding it for couple seconds and releasing it expecting it to start updating. I pushed and held it about 8-10 seconds and then it started updating. Now I'm waiting on some Kryonaut thermal compound so I can mount the CPU and finish assembling everything.

As for it being top-rated, I found it listed on numerous "best x570 motherboard" lists online. At the $200 price point, it had many more features than most other options without spending another $50-$100.

For people still interested in this board, Amazon Warehouse currently has several of these in used very good condition for $115.77 after an additional 20% off for Earth Day.

I ended up going with the Asus Tuf Gaming Pro, but at this price, I'm tempted to switch!

Edit: well, those went fast! Hope someones here enjoy theirs!
