Thanks for the recommendation! I wasn't aware that the straps on the 9205+ were significantly worse. I was just about to place an order, as well.

I still have this on order from January: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09FM2P1KF and I don't know what the difference is. Model number is the same. Both versions are individually wrapped. Except my order from January still hasn't shipped and is a few bucks more expensive.

Unrelated, but I wish all the anti-science and anti-maskers just stayed out of these threads.

No kidding! I ordered some last time they were on sale on February 16th, as of today, the estimated delivery date is Apr 11th.

I hope these aren't counterfeit. My order from January had an expected arrival date of April 8th, so I cancelled and ordered these instead. I don't understand why there are two separate item pages for the same model.

Curious why the 9210+ s are still out of stock everywhere while the 9205+s are in stock and on sale. Luckily I've bought a case of 9210+s last year. The elastic head straps on the 9210+ are so much better if you intended to reuse the respirators.

I bought some 8210 N95 masks from 3M previously, and it was great except for the strap. It keeps failing long before the end of life of the mask. Are these like that?

The 8210 I really like that it doesn't affect my glasses, whereas normal el-cheapo masks do. So I want to get some more, but the darn straps keep failing (which I'm almost certain is a 3M intended design so I have to keep buying these).

Will the 9210 or 9205 have better straps?

Looking forward to giving these a try for their originally intended usage: To work on my house and protect myself from breathing in dust particles.

The 9205's are made in the US. 9210's are manufactured in Singapore. It's quite possible that one manufacturing facility or the other is having supply chain constraints or that 3M is concentrating on supplying the US market domestically for some reason.

Yes! The 9210+ has braided elastic straps while the 9205+ has straps that are similar to the 8210 which breaks easily. Yes, I know we're supposed to pre-stretch the head straps before wearing according to the manual, but it still breaks even after doing so. BTW, I'd also recommend the 8210 Plus, it's the same mask as the 8210 but with the upgraded braided elastic straps just like the 9210+. You can get them from Home Depot.

That makes sense. Thanks!

thanks, that is a whole different animal, not just the straps. I don't mind the rubber on the others and prefer the large coverage and air volume with the boat shape OP deal. I had some rubber straps expire and snap, so I'd just staple some elastic on instead. A few pinholes won't kill me.

The poor straps are actually a deliberate safety feature. You're not supposed to re-use these masks. You're supposed to put them on, do whatever work causes lots of dust to fly into the air, then take them off and throw them away. The straps are designed to encourage you to only use them once.

Then this whole pandemic hit and we were wearing masks every day. And a new $1 mask a day starts to get prohibitively expensive (not to mention difficult to find). I suppose it's OK to re-use them since you're not clogging them with something like drywall dust (though you're supposed to be careful not to contaminate things with the outside of the mask). But do be aware that you lose the airtight seal as the straps stretch out.

On the 8210 masks, I've been using them until the strap breaks, then super-gluing the strap together again. That gives me a few more days of uses, while simultaneously tightening the strap again. I can usually manage to glue each mask 2-4 times before I get rid of it. (YMMV depending on your head size.) I haven't been able to get my hands on the 9210s with the braided straps, so can't say if they loosen up under re-use.

The time to stop them was during the BLM protests. Back then we were shutting down businesses and churches and outdoor events for fear of spreading the virus, and the data on effectiveness of masks wasn't out yet. But suddenly there were these massive gatherings of protestors, and nary a word of objection by the media. That silence is what convinced many of the now-anti-maskers that this whole pandemic was a political fabrication. Rules for me but not for thee. A little bit of consistency in media criticism back then could've saved us years of headaches today. Nothing undermines your credibility quicker than the perception of hypocrisy.
I have a couple boxes of 8511 which I picked up during the wildfires, but those yellow straps have lasted quite a bit of time. Are you familiar with this version and how it compares to the blue "rubber band" straps?

I ordered these exact 3M Aura N95 Masks a few months ago around the start of the last surge. I was actually really disappointed by the feel of these. While the mask itself seems like great quality, the straps are essentially just two blue rubber bands. It is not comfortable at all to have the rubber bands strapped to your head for a long period of time. I ended up not using the rest of these masks.

If you just need to wear this for a short period of time (maybe 1 hour) or have a small head-shape, then this should be ok. Otherwise, I would strongly recommend NOT BUYING these.
I've worn this mask for 2-3 hour stretches many times. They do start to feel heavy on the nose, but if I wear the top band high on my head (not directly over the ears), and make sure it's not twisted, it hasn't bothered my head. From our last box of 10, two of the bands snapped but only after wearing them far more times than we should have.

The Kimberly Clark Professional duck-style N95s we purchased with stretchy fabric bands are lower priced and lighter-feeling on the head and we initially liked them, but they allow more air leakage. I found some tests that rated those N95s at93.9% efficiency [armbrustusa.com] (slightly failing the N95 standard) vs. the Auras which tested at a remarkable 100.0% [armbrustusa.com] efficiency. These Auras are really good masks, particularly when you consider how relatively breathable they are.

(I hadn't known about the 9210+ model that others have referenced and am really curious about those as an alternative, but as everybody has noted, they aren't available now, and certainly not at a price like this. I'd also love to find the Gerson masks [armbrustusa.com] at a good price but they aren't to be found.)

I prefer shipping, as getting around where I am is a pain. Big city, lots of traffic.

Today, 3M says:

Quote :
Respirators can be worn until they are dirty, damaged or difficult to breathe through
and

Quote :
FFRs are disposable, but not single use, so they can be used many times.
Perhaps they changed their tune during the pandemic, but for now even the most conservative manufacturer says that you can reuse them
