FYI that there is a OMEN mouse and OMEN headset heavily discounted as well. Ordered last night for my son and they came today. See screenshot.
It's confusing, and switches aren't exactly making it easy.

Reds and Browns are "Linear" (no bump or click basically) and register a key some time during key press.

Blues are "clicky", and have a mechanical click that occurs during travel.

A LOT of noise comes from key bottom-out, and is just the clack clack of double-injected hard plastic hitting a metal backplate.

On reds and Browns you can type quiet if you type softly, tactile or "clicky" switches will make noise regardless. They DO make "silent" tactile these days.

Basically other keyboards just have a membrane that feels mushy - though I have chicklet style laptop keyboards I like just fine. They bottom out on soft plastic, so there is little percussion.

Short answer is yes. Almost any mechanical keyboard will make significant noise comparitively unless you take some time to make them quiet (mostly rubberized o-rings to soften the bottom out.)

I am no expert, and doubtless others will correct an error, however - basically modern gaming membrane keyboards (Razer, etc) handle multiple key presses at once (real problem in gaming - eg; walk back, jump, change weapon, run - one action could be dropped)

Nowadays it's more of a preference than ever, and messing with this stuff can be fun. I couldn't BUY Cherry Reds for as cheap as this keyboard.. so good deal. It would take 30 minutes or so to put silencers on, and it'd be pretty quiet probably.

Would only say that like the Rk61 Kludge and others now offer good Cherry clones, you can hot swap switches if you get interested (just pull and plug), are RGB/backlit, and can be hard wired AND 2.4 GHZ wireless, AND BT5.0.

Literally let's me mess around/upgrade - and I can unplug from my gaming PC, type on my home media PC, BT to the Google set top - all from one 40$ keyboard.

This is a GREAT deal. However I ended up with 4 keyboards going from my first Corsair Blue MX, and multiple versions.

If this fits your aesthetic, and you're in to typing/gaming a lot - go get it. This is a good deal.

If you want to get in to this hobby and explore, get a good feature-rich cheapo that supports "Hot-Swap" on Amazon (linear switches) and get a sampler platter of switches and try them out!

You can make them quiet. Linear are quiet for gaming unless chat/typing a lot. Most games you're usually pressing, not striking keys.

Hopefully that helped someone - and if I got anything wrong SD enforcers hit it!
Was about to make the same corrections. Some additional info that might help folks:

Reds are linear, quiet, and have a light feel. Good for gamers wanting fast action with minimal resistance. Not ideal for typing since the keys lack tactile feedback.

Blacks are linear, quiet, and have a heavy feel. Good for gamers wanting fast action with more resistance than Cherry Reds.

Browns are tactile, quiet, and have a medium feel. Good for a blend of typing and gaming. Considered to be the best "middle-ground" switch.

Blues are clicky, loud, and have a heavy feel. Good primarily for typing.

I'm sure the tactile feel is great but I take it the keys on this are somewhat loud? I'm used to a relatively quiet keyboard.

Isn't this red not tactile and not loud?

Any first hand experiences with the keyboard or headset?

Thanks! I had just bought a Logitech mechanical keyboard but this is better for gaming and it was cheaper. Got the keyboard and mouse for the same price as the one I had just bought

Reds are non tactile which means they bottom out, rather than have a tractor l tactile or audible usage indicator, which can be loud. This can be remedied with o rings.

Cherry Red are linear keys and semi-quiet. I got a Fnatic keyboard with Cherry Silent Red and they are quieter than regular Red. I would advice you head to a Best Buy and see if they have a Cherry Red keyboard so you can test it out and see if it as quiet as you would like.

Great keyboard, except the red lights. You can't change them or shut them off so it's always on (bad for night gaming).

quick question: this guy on youtube showed that it was possible to change the brightness or shut off the keyboard light complete? or was it a different keyboard?

thanks! Smilie

Excellent price for a cherry red. Linear keys are so far my favorite. I didn't put o ring on mine but if I typed carefully to not bottom out I can type pretty quietly. I can't stand the blues they are so annoying.

Just a couple corrections to an otherwise very informative post: Reds and Blacks are linear. Browns and Blues are tactile. Blues are indeed clicky [cherrymx.de] (click the link for sound sample).
