Unless your fireplace is busted it shouldn't be passing heat from behind or anywhere near this close enough to cause damage. That's the entire point is to remove it out of the danger zone. That's why you should also have a mantle is to project the heat out not up. There's plenty of documentation on this. It's fine to mount your TV above a fireplace.

You're right. I've been going about this all wrong! Instead of trying to improve my condition by getting closer to eye level with this, I should've been looking into getting a new house that doesn't have a fireplace in the only logical spot the tv would go.

The bigger one has a minimum weight requirement of 55lbs. Per reviews. Anything lighter, the TV doesn't stay down. Check your tv specs and be sure they align with the mount specs.

I've been debating this over the mantelmount. Mantel is obviously much more expensive and has a ton more reviews. Can anyone help with comparison.

The issue with motorized version is that if motor dies there's no way to move it manually

I bought the Monoprice without a soundbar mount about 3 months ago. I really like it. The quality of the mount far surpassed my expectations. The one I bought was advertised for 55'-100' TVs and cost $90.

Sometimes we watch with TV up and sometimes down. It's nice to have the option.

Good deal! Got the 55 - 80" for $82 + tax when they had the $25 off $100 end of last month. Called an external service to install which took over 3 hours and cost $120, but happy with the viewing angle. As someone mentioned before, it just stays down most of time.

I have this but the bigger version. It's very sturdy and my tv is over 100lbs. It saves a huge amount of floor space. Only problem is I cant use my fireplace anymore. Anyone have any ideas to keep the fire from damaging the tv?

I bought this and returned it. The gas piston gave out after like a week. Super dangerous.
