I purchased the 8 GB model. Every day I am dabbling in Logic Pro to make music. I have a nice handful of third party plugins (including Serum, which is notorious for being resource-intensive). By no means am I an expert producer so I have yet to see 8 GB struggle on my projects. From time to time I have seen my machine slow a tad with the rainbow circle mouse icon spin for just a few seconds, but that's when I've run over 10 Serum instances. I've learned to bounce my Serum midi recordings in place to not only help the machine run more efficiently (an audio file cuts down CPU and RAM usage dramatically), but it also removes Serum's common and annoying "crackle" and "pop" sounds if playing back through the studio headphones.

I check Activity Monitor often. I've streamed on Twitch and had a complex Logic file editing in real-time and I capped at 6.89 GB of RAM. Safari likes to use memory too so I just limit my browser to 3 tabs at a time. Having 10 tabs open starts to see the yellow bars appear on the graph that memory is low.

Costco only sells the base model mini.
Would I have gone with 16 GB if offered? Yes.
However, since I got the machine for $499 with Costco Citi's 4 year warranty perk (after a coupon and applying some gift card balance), I couldn't pass it up.

Hope this helps! Once I become a more experienced producer I'll upgrade to a stronger machine.

I am so pleased that Apple is providing a cheaper option for entry to the Mac. I can't wait for the next level M2.

For $130 I'd get the extra RAM, personally. But I've had no memory issues with the base Mini.

Best value Mac desktop. I'd expect the rumored revision with the next Apple Silicon chip to be more expensive.

Go with a fanless mini pc for $200 and wait for the m2 version or bite the bullet here?
Probably depends on your use case, but I imagine this one will work fine for the next five years if the last five are anything to go by. Even more if the M1 holds up better than Intel, which I think it will.

Yep, that's the beauty of it they stay relevant for years. My old 2012 generation was getting OS updates until Catalina and was chugging along perfectly fine. Just sold it to get a laptop otherwise I would keep it.

This is a great deal for a desktop and redefines what entry level means. This thing is lightning fast.

If someone needs a desktop for everything but games there is nothing better. I prefer to spend a bit more for the portability of the Air.

Sorry, dumbest comment ever. It's Costco and it's common knowledge that you need a membership to avoid the surcharge from Costco or Sam's club. That $60 will get you double the warranty, access to easy returns, and depending how much you buy, the exec membership gets you 2% back. Grab a handful of high $ items from Costco each year and it easily pays for itself.

I'd personally skip the PC and would go for this deal. I can't see the M2 Mini being under $600 especially with current inflation.

Even if you upgrade to the M2, you could probably sell this and get a decent amount back. Only other option I'd consider is waiting for another $850 Air deal and get portability.

I have a 16GB RAM M1 mini on hold for $702 at another store but it's open-box. Really wanted the extra RAM but this is $130 less and new. What do you guys think?

Depends on your use case.

If you are just surfing web, netflix, work etc. Get this one.

If you are gaming or video editing, go for higher ram.
