When I airplay sport streams from my MacBook to the Apple TV 4K, I notice that sometimes it lags if the bitrate is too high. Even though it's still 1080p.

Would this new Apple TV have less lag?

I'm trying to understand the potential use of this if you have a new tv that has a decent app interface such as Lg webos or Sony google platform. Is it just for superior functionality or am I missing something? In other words how would this improve my experience using a new tv?

I have owned Apple TV in the past (2nd gen non 4K I think), but it didn't have all the channels that I needed, so switched over to Roku. Have they fixed the lack of available apps? Also, what makes the Apple TV better than the other devices that are much less expensive?

Edit: use the following:

AppleTV service
YouTube TV
Hulu
Peacock
HBO Max
Plex
Tubi
Prime Video

Also cast from iPad, iPhone, Android phone. Any issue with any of the apps or casting in its current version?

I have a Roku Ultra and can't stand the picture quality output on YouTube TV as it looks blocky and less than HD. Does anyone have experience going from a similar situation to an Apple TV?

It's not Costco but Amazon has the 64gb model for $189. Even better after prime rewards.

One cool thing about Apple TV, if you have a couple Sonos speakers around and no Sonos sound bar, you can airplay to them as tv speakers. Works well for some set ups.

I purchased 2 of these to replace my Spectrum cable boxes. Bye bye $20 per month going to Spectrum. The picture quality is far superior as well.

Help me out... why even bother with Apple TV. The allure is the hardware and ethernet connectivity. Why wouldnt a Roku Ultra 4K at ~$100 less be the much better option.

People have mentioned a lot of the pros of owning an Apple TV 4K but let me sum it up, coming from owning a Shield Pro, the newest Firestick TV+, Roku Ultra, and a Google Chromecast with Android TV.

1. No ads
2. Clean UI
3. Best, most up to date streaming apps - Netflix/HBO Max apps are simply best on tvOS
4. Best picture - people will argue about the Shield Pro's AI upscaling but Apple TV's frame rate and content matching and other factors make it the best picture on my Sony OLED
5. Premium remote not a cheap plastic piece of junk with Netflix / Hulu buttons on front
6. Super fast navigation - nothing comes close
7. Ability to multi-task and close out apps instead of restarting the device just like on your phone

And to me the best feature of all that no one mentioned - spatial audio with Airpods 2/3/Pro/Max

If you dont have a huge surround sound system, watch shows when others are sleeping, or even if you do have a big sound system - spatial audio when watching thru Apple TV 4K is amazing. Feels like you are in the theater and absolutely no lag between audio/video. Only device that came close to eliminating the lag was the Shield Pro and that was with locally stored video files not streaming.

$160 is a lot of money to spend but this device will last you at least 3 years where you can sell it for $80 and recoup half what you paid.

If you are on Apple's ecosystem there are many more advantages to this device but most of my Android loving friends have one and they love it
