I have this set and I havent had any issues. The 10lb weight plates are cast iron (no plastic casing) and the handle is also metal. The mechanism that locks the weight is a steel pin. The first smaller weight plate (+ 2.5 / 5 lb increment plate) that sits closest to the handle does have a hardened plastic casing but the 10lb increment plates are different
No these are hardened plastic , these are easily breakable when dropped. They work just fine but when it compare to bowflex , bowflex is superior in build quality.
I bought this set at Sam's in Nov. 2021 for $199 and use them almost every day since.
They're great!!! Some people post complaints about the sliding action not being perfect but is anything? I find the sliding action is quick and works for me. Just know it's spring action and hastily jamming it back-and-forth isn't the best method for weight selection. The weight selection function works as it's designed to work. My bulking-up days are gone so these combined with a decent incline/decline bench equals plenty of maintenance workout options. Check out youtube for good content featuring beneficial dumb bell-only workouts.

Is the dumbbell itself made from metal? How does this compare to the bowflex 552?

Weider used to be an excellent fitness company.
I don't know about now that just about every company has sold out to a Chinese brand

Thanks! This is the insight I was looking for! Will wait for a Bowflex deal to pop someday.

Deal is still live. Are the dumbbells any good? How do they care to the Bowflex SelecTech?

Nordictrack, Proform and Weider are owned by the same company, IFIT.

From what I've read, these are cast iron with some plastic.

YMMV but I recently purchased the Bowflex 552 singles for $148 each at Walmart in store. Example zip code 29571. Here's an link that you can check.

Also noticed them at Sam's club for $319 for the pair but that's also YMMV. Members price.

For an extra $50, Woot recently had a sale on Powerblock Elites, superior quality, made from steel. I'd wait and look out for those, for around $299.

Second for power block. All metal practically indestructible. Don't get these or the Bowflex, all trash
