I have a pair in Black. Bought them for this price and absolutely love them. The imaging and detail is just awesome.

My dog barks at scenes (door bells, knocks, etc...) because it sounds so real compared to my old soundbar.

Is there another world where the Onkyo wouldn't be good enough?

I'm guessing he's saying compared to testing/critical listening where 'snobs' would opt for integrated or dedicated amplifiers, with a separate source.

These are on the entry edge of audiophile, so these getting paired with Rotel, Cambridge, Marantz, etc. isn't that uncommon.

Anyone have any personal experience with these compared to either Infinity R152 or Klipsch reference premier?

Neck to neck with 590s
Perhaps more comparable to 580s since both have 6.5" woofers. Although 580 is 2.5 and BR08 is 3way

Would the Costco Onkyo be better for this than the Yamaha? Though I prefer the look of the Yamaha.

And how does the polk audio monitor 70 compare to this?

I'd go with bookshelf speakers (smaller set like Triangle BR03) for the surround back/side channels to save money and to give the surround channels a little height (wall-mounted, if possible).

Most home theater setups can and do use smaller speakers in the rear. This saves money and prioritizes placement flexibility. From what I can tell, it does not sacrifice performance.

If you have the floor space, of course you can buy two towers for the rear channels. It _might_ be overkill, but some folks _might_ say they're getting a "fuller" sound. If you have a good subwoofer and proper LFE management, this however should not be a concern.

I now use four towers, a dedicated center, two bipoles, and two subs in my system. I used to use two towers, a dedicated center, two dipoles, and one sub for nine years. I was and am happy with both.

I decided to pull the trigger on these after a few hours of reading and watching YouTube videos. They sound like a very good value at this price point. Now just need the center channel to go on sale…

Not me, but most people are characterizing them as warm/sweet sounding with fast/tight bass. That would indicate a bit more response in the 100-500hz range and even order distortion, with a rolled off top end.

How do these compare to my polk audio monitor 70s? People don't seem to like polk audio.

Seems my existing ones have more and larger cones and a deeper cabinet. But I guess size isn't everything.

Wtf your dog is an audiophile? I can imitate a doorbell and my dog barks. 😂
