Moosejaw price with BEARHUG promo code: $80

UPDATE: member steeldeals points out that the Moosejaw bag is 20L.

There is an Osprey Transporter Global Carry-on Bag [rei.com] (which is 36L) listed for $111 at REI. (but that would be $89 with REI's current member 20% off promo.

AKA: The Moosejaw bag is $4 per liter.
The REI bag is $2.47 per liter.
If your brain thinks like that :-)

3 Color options:
Black
Smoke Grey
Venturi Blue

Good price for this, but note that the item for $111 at REI.com cited in the first post as a comparison price is the Osprey Transporter Global Carry-on Bag [rei.com], which is NOT the same bag as this one. That one is 36L size, vs. 20L for the Transporter Boarding Bag. And REI members can currently get an additional 20% off, bringing the price of the Global Carry-On down to $89. (REI does not have the Transporter Boarding Bag on its website.)
For clarity, the Moosejaw bag is 20L, the REI bag is 36L.

This is a 36L backpack. It's not a small bag at all.

Looks like a nice bag and the two can be quite different but if you are in the market for a travel bag and not in a hurry, consider waiting for a Farpoint 40 deal which historically has come down to this price range. The Farpoint is more versatile that works as both a backpack and a shoulder bag like this one with the included side strap. If your load is heavy, carrying it as a backpack is generally more efficient and comfortable. The Farpoint has compression straps to flatten when the load is light so it does not look and feel bulky. When I traveled for work I've used it as an office backpack, I just empty my clothes at the hotel. Despite its height and width it didn't stand out and no one took a second look. A Farpoint (and the Porter) deal on SD usually gets a lot of attention and is popular for a reason.

I have been trying to find a good travel backpack and so had been looking deeply at the Farpoint/Fairview 40, which is very highly rated for a carry on.

But the one benefit to the transporter global carry-on (or even the OP's bag option) is the ability to place the bag under the seat. Although it won't fit under all seats, the transporter bags can usually be shoved under if it is not overpacked.

The Farpoint/Fairview twins on the other hand have a metal frame, so although it would fit in two dimensions you would be gambling on the length of the bag, as it would stick out between 3-5 inched from beyond the seat in front of you and would be a ymmv for what the flight attendant wants to do about it.

So if you want a backpack that is comfortable, and can be used as a US carry-on, and will mostly be used as a carry-on (not a personal item), then the Farpoint/Fairview 40 is the way to go.

If you want a bag that will fit most international carry-on limits, can double as a personal item carry-on in the US, that provides no fancy features to make it more comfortable to carry than a Jansport backpack, then the Transporter Global Carry-On is a better option for you.

And if you just like smaller bags, don't care for the backpack feature, and want a bag that can fit as a personal item on US as well as international flightd, then the OP's is still a solid option.

Do you have a link to the product on the IKEA website? I can't seem to find that exact one.
