This is a 36L backpack. It's not a small bag at all.

I have been trying to find a good travel backpack and so had been looking deeply at the Farpoint/Fairview 40, which is very highly rated for a carry on.
But the one benefit to the transporter global carry-on (or even the OP's bag option) is the ability to place the bag under the seat. Although it won't fit under all seats, the transporter bags can usually be shoved under if it is not overpacked.
The Farpoint/Fairview twins on the other hand have a metal frame, so although it would fit in two dimensions you would be gambling on the length of the bag, as it would stick out between 3-5 inched from beyond the seat in front of you and would be a ymmv for what the flight attendant wants to do about it.
So if you want a backpack that is comfortable, and can be used as a US carry-on, and will mostly be used as a carry-on (not a personal item), then the Farpoint/Fairview 40 is the way to go.
If you want a bag that will fit most international carry-on limits, can double as a personal item carry-on in the US, that provides no fancy features to make it more comfortable to carry than a Jansport backpack, then the Transporter Global Carry-On is a better option for you.
And if you just like smaller bags, don't care for the backpack feature, and want a bag that can fit as a personal item on US as well as international flightd, then the OP's is still a solid option.
