Now that the shortage is over time to wait for them to bring these down to a reasonable price.

I was in this boat about 2 months ago and paid full price for the 3080 ti FTW (~$1450 to the door)

I do games but I don't game that much and not having a functional PC was killing me My last PC lived for 10 years so it was a decent investment and I had the cash. YMMV.

I enjoy gaming so I would never wait and just accept my bad luck that it died right before next gen is about to come out from both amd and nvidia. If money is tight, decision is obvious. Otherwise it's all about self-control. If you already have a console system too then you should wait.

Haha same. I got "selected" from the wait list last month just before they started showing up as available.. kinda irritating this is the way the market.
9 years ago when I bought my 290 I got it for a deal of $300!
Can't believe I spent $1500 on a GPU alone 😫😭

If you're going to pay this much, at least get a 3090 no matter that it costs even more. You get more performance and should last longer before needing to replace it.
Spend $600-$700 more for the same frames vs the 3080 Ti?

Can someone help me understand what I get for paying the $1400ish for the title's 3080, vs , say, $699 for a 3080 founder's edition? How can I evaluate what the difference in gameplay would be like across both of those cards given the same games and resolutions. Thanks!

No kidding. I paid $800 for my 3080 MSI Gaming X Trio a year and a half ago. These prices are outrageous.

You'd figure now that I finally got my card and pc built these cards are finally available again frequently, I just hope this availability keeps up so prices can start working their way down (supply/demand). Next card I will get will probably be a 4080Ti

If you can find a 3080 FE at msrp then you should get it. Problem is that no one has seen those new in the wild since 2 weeks after the card was released in 2020. Nvidia decided they under priced it, which is why they never made any more and then came out with 3080 12gb, so that they could charge almost double for the 4 extra gb of video memory.
